Welcome to Broomfield Park Swimming Club

Our new Head Coach

We are delighted to announce that we now have a new Head Coach - Sandra Wilde.

Sandra officially starts her new BPSC role on Tuesday 4 April, but will be introducing herself to swimmers on Wednesday 29 March, 6.30pm-8.30pm at QE Boys’ – there’ll also be an opportunity for parents/guardians to say hello then too.

Here’s a message from Sandra with some insight into her swimming career:

“I am very excited to be joining the Broomfield Park team and would like to thank the Committee for this opportunity.

To give you a little information about myself and my background, I first started coaching swimming back in 2015 after a number of years teaching swimming at all levels. I qualified as a Level 3 (Senior) coach while acting as Head Coach at Ludlow Swimming Club in Shropshire, where my team qualified for Regional competition for the first time as a result of their hard work and new coaching practices.  The club was very similar to Broomfield Park, being a small concern with limited pool time and I often had to “swim up” in Arena galas as we did not have sufficient 16+ girls to make up the team.

During this time, I also ran a small water polo team which trained two nights a week and became successful in bringing forward a number of players who competed at County level.

I moved to Coventry in 2018 to take up a role with Coventry City Swimming Club, setting up their own Learn to Swim scheme at Warwick University and coaching the Number 2 senior squad, after which I decided to take a position with Boldmere Swimming Club as Coach of the elite Performance age group squad to have the opportunity of working with Ashley Cox, who trained Ellie Simmonds.  I learned a great deal from both of these positions and enjoyed working with swimmers often targeting National competition and top-class coaches particularly at Boldmere, which was a very progressive environment, encouraging swimmers and coaches to adopt new approaches to develop full potential.

My philosophy has always been to work with swimmers to encourage them to achieve their best, however that looks.  For some, this might be qualification at National competition, for others it might be practice for Open Water events, or get fit for Water Polo, or even simply to be able to tumble turn or increase their efficiency when swimming. Whatever the aim, I will do my best to help.

I look forward to meeting you all next week!”
