CABSC Masters Open Meet 2023

Declan Curzon-Hepworth

On Sunday 11th June CABSC Masters hosted our 10th annual Masters gala. This year we swam at the new Bingham Arena pool, and this was the first major gala at our new pool. Despite a few hiccups, such as the electronic scoreboard not working, the whole day was a resounding success. A big thank you to all the officials and volunteers who helped to make the day a success.

In addition to being an open Meet, the event doubled up as the Nottinghamshire Masters County Championships.  In total 20 CABSC Masters competed throughout the day, with many excellent swims, and numerous county titles.

A very special mention for Kate Vines, who entered all 14 events, plus 2 relays, and actually won all 14 County titles for her age group. Most amazing was watching Kate swim the 200m IM, and have one heat rest before swimming 200m butterfly, where she was the only entrant. At the end of this swim, she then stayed in the water as she was in the first heat of 200m backstroke. An astonishing feat, so well done Kate.

There have been many very kind comments on Facebook following the event such as:

“Just on our way home from the Bingham and Calverton open championships - it was really well organised everyone was friendly beautiful pool and we got prizes at the end

(chocolate, wine or goggles ) thank you from Wrexham Masters 🏊🏼‍♀️ see you next year”

“ Thanks so much again to you and all the team who gave up their time to run such a great meet. Please pass on my sincere thanks from everyone in Nottingham Leander - all very efficiently run, as always, and the prizes are much appreciated”

“ Really enjoyed the event on Sunday hosted by CABSC at the new venue at Bingham, good programme, well organised and Officials did us proud.”

“ Thank you to all at CABSC for a lovely meet. Great pool, great officials and a great atmosphere”.

This event takes a lot of organising each year, and we manage to find a few corporate sponsors, and as a result, the meet makes us a nice profit, which benefits the whole club.
