Coaches and Committee

I started swimming at age 12, and had a fairly successful career as a junior swimmer, mainly as part of a very good relay team, which went onto win Silver at the National Age Groups. I started swimming and competing as a Master 30 years ago, and set up the Masters squad in the club about 18 years ago with my wife. As a Master swimmer I have won several titles at the National championships and currently hold 14 East Midlands records across various age groups. I enjoy coaching and swimming with the Masters squad where we work hard, but also have fun.
A footballer in his youth Dean has since seen the light and as a relative newcomer to swimming got involved with CABSC after watching his girls, Jenna and Jess, from the balcony for several years. Team manager and level 1 coach courses soon followed and he is now very much enjoying assisting James and the rest of the team coaching the County squad and helping out poolside at galas. Dean says, Its a great experience working with these swimmers. They are not only talented and committed as individuals but are equally committed in their loyalty to the club and support for each other and the team. Theyre all highly motivated to continue improving and be the best they can be. Im constantly learning from them and from the other coaches and volunteers and hope to be able to support them all in the years to come.” An early riser Dean can normally be found poolside for the Monday and Friday morning sessions and most Friday evenings. I am a member of the coaching staff at CABSC. My daughter is
also a member of the club and I wanted to give something back into
the sport after having a successful swimming career when I was
younger. I had the pleasure of swimming at the Sydney Olympic Games
for Great Britain and held the British records for 100 and 200
breaststroke long and short for a number of years. My highest world
ranking was 7 and I gained a number of medals in international
competition. I still hold a few Nottinghamshire county records that
have stood for nearly 20 years and it would be lovely, as a coach,
to help a swimmer break those records!

As a youngster, I swam for Hoylake ASC based in Wirral and completed at County-level events. After a break from swimming to pursue hockey at university and county level, then starting a family, I got involved at CABSC when my children (all of whom are now grown up!) joined the club and I joined as a Masters swimmer for my fitness! Since joining CABSC as a Masters swimmer, I have competed at Regional, National, European events and the Masters World Swimming Championships in Budapest in 2017. Very proud to have achieved the world qualifying times and competed for GB! I volunteered to help on poolside to give back to the club and get involved; I completed Club Coach (level 3) in 2007, having first started volunteering and then coaching with CABSC in 2002 and doing my Level 1 and 2 swimming qualifications. I am now squad coach for Senior Development Squad swimmers. I love the fact that the swimmers I coach, swim because they enjoy the sport, as I have done and that the fitness often enhances other sports or activities such as triathlon or water polo. Favourite CABSC moments many and varied as I have been involved at all levels; from swimmers who started with me in the teaching pool, now competing at international level to just seeing the satisfaction when someone completes a training set better than last time
