The Club

Based in Cranleigh, Surrey, CASC is a SwimMark accredited swimming club providing ASA qualified coaching for swimmers from 8 years and upwards. The Club is a not-for-profit organisation, run entirely by volunteers, together with a small paid coaching team.

The Club’s coaches help swimmers to develop, train and compete for individual goals in home and away ASA Galas. Despite the club’s relatively small size, it has seen good success in recent years. In the three years prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, over 200 club records have been set, with our swimmers taking pride in their times often being the best the club has ever produced. During that period the club has had good representation at County Championships, with a number of swimmers additionally qualifying for Regional and National Championships.

We typically run three successful Open Meets each year and with just over 80 members, the club has capacity to grow our membership.

The Role

Following the retirement of our current Head Coach, we are looking for a new part-time Head Coach to lead the CASC coaching team as it continues to develop swimmers to county standard and beyond. The role requires an inspirational coach with good leadership and excellent communication skills. As part of the role, the Head Coach will motivate all Club swimmers and coaching staff to achieve their optimal levels and provide the direction for all Club swimming matters.

The Club is based at Cranleigh Leisure Centre, where it trains three evenings per week, with additional twice weekly training sessions at nearby Cranleigh School. The role will also involve travel (primarily within the South-East region) as required for swimming events and galas.

The role will involve between 10 and 15 hours per week poolside coaching commitment, with additional time for planning and preparation. Time travelling to and coaching at Competitions and Galas will be paid separately at an agreed rate.

About You

We are looking for candidates who hold a Swim England Senior Swimming Coach (ASA Level 3) qualification or Swim England Swimming Coach (ASA Level 2) qualification with an ambition to progress. The ideal person will be able to demonstrate technical excellence in all elements of swimming, in addition to at least 2 years primary supervision of a club swimming squad and mentoring other coaches.

The successful applicant will be confident, personable and professional with the ability to communicate with swimmers, coaches, members and Club officials and capable of effective time management with the ability to plan and organise sessions and coaching cycles.

Applicants must have a current Enhanced DBS certificate and Swim England Safeguarding qualification. A current lifeguarding qualification would also be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing and supporting the delivery of the swimming programme by our team of Assistant Swimming Coaches (Level 1) and Swimming Coaches (Level 2), including mentoring swimming coaches to ensure appropriate training, development and high coaching standards throughout the club
