Friday night swimming – some clarity – Bronze, Silver, Gold

This is for Bronze, Silver and Gold squads.

So tonight the 4th November is 4:30 to 6:30pm. This will also be the same the the 11th November as well.

After this point it will change, drum roll ……. but we have not had confirmation of what that is going to be yet.

We are currently waiting on times and lanes being confirmed by Fife Leisure trust.

Sorry for any confusion and disappointment, we’ll get an email out with this in as well.

Thank you.

We really need you!

WeNeedYou

We need you to help, we need volunteers to fill positions in the club to help run this club. If we do not start filling these positions soon the club will get to a point that it can not carry on.

We need more coaches and more roles in the club filled.

The AGM is coming up and this is the perfect time to get involved. https://cuparswimming.com/2016/10/27/club-agm-agenda-10th-november/

Here are a list of the roles in the club, the sound a lot more serious than they are and we can all help a little, there is no reason two people can’t do one roll together if that helps, buddy up! The link below has more information.

Club AGM – Thursday 10th November

Dear All

Our AGM will be held on 10 November 2016 at 7pm in the clubhouse. Please find agenda attached. Any proposed changes to constitution or bye-laws should be made by return e-mail to this address.

At the AGM we will appoint the management committee. This year we have several vacancies and unless these are filled the club will no longer be able to function. The following posts are vacant:
President
Vice-president
Membership secretary
Treasurer
Secretary

Role descriptors for each of these positions are available on the club website. Please consider volunteering to help. The club is run entirely by volunteer parents and grandparents and as swimmers get older and move on to new pastures we need parents of younger swimmers to step in and take over. Even if you don’t feel able to take on a formal role we need ordinary committee members to ensure we represent the whole club.

Best wishes

CADSC committee

committee meeting this Thursday (6th) at 7pm

Remember the committee meeting this Thursday (6th) at 7pm in the clubhouse . The committee is run entirely by volunteer parents and we would encourage anyone who has a child in swim club to come along and get involved ….. There are lots of ways to get involved in the smooth running of the club without giving up a lot of time . It would be great to see some new faces on the committee

Next committee meeting on 6th October at 7pm in the clubhouse

Dear All

The next Cupar and District Swimming Club committee meeting will be on 6th October at 7pm in the clubhouse (behind the leisure centre). Following this there will be an AGM on 10 November – we will send a reminder nearer the time.

Please can we ask all parents to consider coming along to support the running of the club? There are many different ways you can help and many don’t take up much time. Some examples include running the club table while your child is swimming, helping to organise fund raising or club galas, and giving us your opinion on the way the club is organised. We are keen to improve communication but need help to make this happen. The meetings are informal and often include biscuits!

If you can support us please come along to the meetings or contact any of the committee members/ club table volunteers.

Thank you

Swim Day on Sunday 14th

Swim Day 14th August

To follow on from our first post can we now get people to confirm by email that you are intending to come on Sunday.

The schedule for the day has not change but we will email one out to you when you have confirmed you are coming.

One thing to have a think about now, other than your kit bag and clothes to wear, is what food you will need through the day.

There are some small breaks to get changed in and also get some fuel in you as well.

This is an interesting article if you are wondering what to be thinking about food wise.

So please reply by via email to say if you are coming, if you need to get a faster response about something then please speak to some one on Thursday or Friday night.

Email [email protected]

Thanks

The day will be run by Derek McGowan, Scottish Youth Development Coach.

It will take place at the Sports Centre and start at 7:45am. Below is the provisional timetable:

Head Coach

Dear Swimmers and Parents

As many of you are aware Mark Laing our head coach has now finished his time with Cupar. We are all sorry to lose him but very grateful to Mark for all his hard work, encouragement and enthusiasm over the past few years.

We want to take this opportunity to reassure you all that we are actively seeking to fil the vacancy and the club will continue to be run by qualified volunteer coaches in the meantime.

I am sure you will all want to join us in thanking Mark and giving him our best wishes for the future.

Kind regards

CADSC committee

Summer Timetable adjustment

Sorry for confusion folks.

I have just been told summer training starts this Friday ( 1 July) and so there will be no swimming on Saturday morning this week.

Hope junior club members can make it along on Thursdays over the summer.

Any more updates and I will be in touch!

Certificate of Achievement

Over the past 6 to 12 months we as a club have under taken a project to increase the amount of information that we have on hand to give out to new and existing members. This is a constant process that we are aiming to ramp up at the beginning of next session.

The first visible outcome of this has been when one of our swimmers moves up into the senior squad and the receive a certificate. This is partly for the child to give them something tangible for their efforts but also it servers a function for us the parents. The back of these certificates has the squad information about the new squad they are joining.

This information includes when the sessions are, what is expected of the swimmer, equipment that is expected and the new price of the squad.

CertAchieve
CertAchieve (2)
This is just the start of the information that we want to be able to have on hand at the club and we will have more.

We will soon be sending out a draft of the new club hand book, it’s not complete, there is a lot of information that we have to pull together to get it done but we wanted to get some information out now. Feel free to suggest what other information you think would be useful.

The biggest thing from all of this is please try to get involved, even if it is just to bake cakes for the next cake fund raiser.

Thank you.

Sports Relief Fundraiser

Cupar and District Swimming Club are planning a Sport Relief event next week. This will involve distance swims for the younger club members (badges to be presented at club awards night ) and team relays for those who train on a Friday night …… We were hoping for a donation from everyone taking part and will be collecting donations at the club table . We are also having a baking sale from the club table on each of these evenings and would be grateful for as many baking donations as you can manage ! All money raised will go to Sport Relief.
More info to follow. Hope to see you all there.

Selection to National Stroke Camps

I’m extremely proud to announce that confirmation has been received of selection to national stroke camps for both Scarlett Ferris and Adam Young. Of all the Fife clubs, Carnegie and Cupar are the only two to have swimmers selected to train with the national coaching team on the 23rd/24th April at the National Swimming Academy in Stirling. Well done to both swimmers in achieving their Bronze Squad times initially and then giving such a good account of themselves that they were selected for further development.

Head Coach, Cupar and District Swimming Club

Member of the British Swimming Coaches Assoc.

Club records procedure updated

http://cuparswimming.com/squads/club-times-sheet/

Age is as of 31st December in that year and our records relate to short course swims only (swims achieved in a 25m pool). Any further queries about club records, please contact the Head Coach, Mark Laing.

Sport Relief 17th March

Hi all ….. Planning on doing a Sport Relief event for Comic Relief on 17th / 18th / 19th March …. Something along the lines of Distance Badges for Junior Squads and relays for the Senior Squads with a suggested contribution of £5/ swimmer rather than a sponsor form and a cake sale for after …. We might need a few volunteers and a lot of bakers !! Watch this space !

Long Course Training 7th and 28th May 10am to Midday.

Long Course training has been booked at the National Swimming Academy in Stirling on the 7th and 28th May. Both sessions are 10am-midday.

After the session on the 28th, we plan to stay in the grounds of the university and have a picnic, play team games etc.

If you are interested in training in the 50m pool, then please put your name up on the sheet on the wall at the pool.

Training is open to all Bronze/Silver/Gold squad swimmers and costs £5.00 per child per session.

Fife Leagues afternoon start has changed – poolside midday.

Seems that the leagues are being pushed back timewise to 12.15pm start, so swimmers need to be poolside for midday.

Thanks

Carnegie Open Spring Meet

Another tremendous weekend of swimming from our swimmers saw 28 new lifetime bests set, two gold medals to Lewis, a Bronze to Cameron and 50m event finals from Lewis, Murdo, Charlotte and Hannah. 50m events were held as heats and finals and all other races were heat declared winners (HDW). Info Sheet – Carnegie Open Spring Meet

Murdo had a super weekend making the finals of the 50m Breast and Fly setting PB’s in both. In his 100m Fly he picked up a SNAGS (Scottish National Age-Groups) consideration time, so fingers crossed he gets a swim in Glasgow at the end of March. All of his swims were improvements on his entry time. Charlotte too picked up a couple of final swims, in the 50m Breast and Back. In the Backstroke final she set a SNAGS qualifying time, so she is guaranteed a swim in this stroke next month. She made excellent improvements to her 50m Free and Fly times too.

This was the first major gala for Callum and he smiled before, during and after every race. A clean sweep of PB’s in all of his races shows why he is one of the Bronze + team. A move to Silver Squad beckons if he keeps up this run of super training and racing!! Cameron had three races on Saturday and set fabulous times in each one. His 200m Free in particular saw him on electric form setting a great time and picking up third place. His 400m time was very close to the club record (held by Ollie Carter) and I’m sure Cameron will be targeting it again as the season goes on.

Connor swam on Saturday too and put in a decent performance in his 400m Free to set a time close to his entry. In his 200m Free he set a new lifetime best. Connor is training well at the moment and I’ve no doubt that his times will tumble across the board as the season progresses. Eve produced a marvellous 200m Free swim on the Saturday taking over ten-seconds off her time in one of the best swims of the weekend from our club swimmers. She was grinning from ear-to-ear when she got out of the water, so I didn’t need to ask her how she felt.

10-yr-old Hannah enjoyed a wonderful weekend of competition. She made the final of the 50m Breast despite being one of the youngest in her age-group setting a super new PB. In her 200m Breast she took off a whopping 20 seconds. In her 200m Free and Back she made improvements too, leading to her securing two more DRP times for next season. Just one more neededJ. Lewis too enjoyed an extremely good weekend, picking up gold medals in his number one stroke as well as setting new PB’s in his Freestyle 200/400 and Backstroke 200 too. His Backstroke swim in particular was raced extremely well, displaying excellent underwater skills and turns at the wall.

DRP – District Regional Programme – A programme of three training days presented by a national coach followed, potentially, by selection to a national stroke camp day to train with the best young swimmers from across Scotland. This year both Adam Young and Scarlett Ferris have been selected to national stroke camp. My thanks again to Jacqui, Karen and Jane for their assistance over the weekend and to our parents who supported the event as timekeepers/judges.

Mark Laing, Head Coach, Cupar and District Swimming Club.
