ULSTER AGE GROUPS, YOUTH AND SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018

Coleraine Swim Team11th June 2018News, Parents, Swimmers

Four swimmers from Coleraine Swimming Club progressed through the various Ulster swimming competitions in the 2017/18 season to gain qualifying times to enter the Ulster Age Groups and Youth and Senior Championships which are highest level age group events in the Swim Ulster calendar.

Molly Curry swam in the age 16yrs 100m and 200m breaststroke events. For the 5th year in a row she won the gold medal in the 100m to earn the title of Ulster Champion 2018. She also won the 200m making her the Double Ulster Champion 3 times in the last 4 years (having missed the 200m final last year due to other commitments). Molly can now look forward to the Irish Age Group Championships in July.

Yna Cisnero, entered in the girls 13yrs category of the 100m breaststroke, made it through her heats to come a very commendable 6th in the final.

Jake Ilsley qualified for both backstroke distances in the 14yr age group. In the 100m backstroke he improved his entry time by 2.1secs to come 5th in Ulster in the final. This was also a qualification time for the Irish Age Group Finals in July – where he will compete against the best swimmers in Ireland. In the 200, backstroke he finished 8th in the final and once again achieved an Irish Age Group qualification time.

Matthew Curry swam in the 100m breaststroke and after coming 10th in the heats improved his ranking by one in the final to finish 9th in Ulster in the 14yrs category.

Jake and Matthew were also joined by Harry Hughes, Kyle Cooper, Charlie Eatwell and Finn Ilsley to swim in different combinations in various boys age 14 relay events. In the 400m freestyle Jake, Matthew, Kyle and Harry combined to come 5th in Ulster. In the 800m freestyle relay Kyle, Finn, Charlie and Jake combined to come 4th in Ulster.

Well done to all the swimmers for competing at this highest level of youth swimming within our province.

PTL TEAM V LARNE OCT ’17

Coleraine Swim Team11th October 2017News, Parents, PTL, Swimmers

Last Saturday (7th October 17) we welcomed Larne Swimming Club to Coleraine to swim in the 2nd PTL Gala of the season.

With a few of our key swimmers unavailable due to other commitments and illness we knew this was going to be a very tough ask to beat Larne. We started the gala off well with 2 wins in the first 2 events with the Group A girls and boys medley relays. However Larne proved too strong for our young PTL team and won the gala by a convincing number of points. Our swimmers performed well however and managed 64PBs between them all.

Eighteen swimmers had 2 or more PBs each – they were – Yna C, Molly C, Daniel E, Flynn G, Joshua H, Finn I, Jake I, Eva J, Emma K, Mark K, Aleksandra K, Max McC, Isla McC, Lauren M, Paul R, Rebecca R, Ben S and Oran W. Well done to everyone.

All swim times are up in our Results portal – log in to see your child’s times at this gala.

Molly also broke a long standing Club 50m breaststroke record previously held by Olympian Emma Robinson. Molly took 1.03secs off the record to set a new time of 32.92sec.

If you think your child may have broken a club record please email [email protected] and this will be verified and confirmed by club officials – see our Records page for currrent records.

PTL TEAM V TEMPLEMORE SEPT 17

Coleraine Swim Team5th October 2017News, Parents, PTL, Swimmers

On Saturday 23rd September the Coleraine PTL team left Coleraine mid afternoon to travel to Templemore Swimming Club in Belfast.

This was our first interclub competition of the new 2017/18 season and a chance for all our swimmers to blow away the cobwebs from the summer and show the coaches that they have been working hard at training for the past 4 weeks.

With a “no diving” rule for any of the events, due to shallow waters at both ends of the pool,  it was going to be difficult for most of the swimmers to achive PBs. However all swam well and many PBs were achieved – especially among the younger athletes. As usual the excitment was high and all the swimmers gave off their best. However, during supper after a very close, friendly and competitive gala we discovered that Coleraine were narrowly beaten by a fantastic Templemore team.

Congratulations Templemore and thanks for your generous hospitality.

Our PTL team now have their second gala to look forward to against Larne this weekend.

Results from this gala are now online in our Time Trials Results portal.
