Hampshire Counties Weekend 1 Distance and Relay Results

Gina Bassett CSSC MEET SECRETARY

What a successful weekend!  The results once again showed a marked improvement over the last three years' results.  Out of 26 individual swims in the long distances (400IM, 400m Free, 800m Free and 1,500m Free), 23 were Personal Best Times. This is a fantastic achievement and shows how hard the swimmers have been working.  Special congratulations to Allie B who won golds in 400m, 800m and 1,500m Free,  Emily L who won silver in a very thrilling 400IM,  Matthew L who gained a bronze in 400m Free, Fraser A and Gaby M who were both 4th in the 400m Free.  Overall 10 swimmers had top 8 finishes.  There were also some exciting swims in the relays:  over 80% of the 76 individual swims were PBs and it is only due to technical errors resulting in disqualification that more medals in this area weren't won.  It is often said that learning from mistakes is the best way to learn so the future looks bright for these swimmers.   Special mention should go to the Boys 10-12 4X50 Medley Relay Team (bk Fraser A, br Jadan O, fl Matthew L, fc Stanley P) who just missed out on a bronze.  Best performance in the relays goes to the U14 4X50m Girls Medley (bk Katie S, br Emily L, fl Macey C, fc Allie B) who with massive PBs won silver, just missing out on the gold by 4/100th of a second in a very exciting event to watch.  Best of luck to the 18 swimmers due to swim individual events at Waterlooville on 1/2 Feb.
