Another excellent weekend of racing at Portsmouth for our swimmers in individual events and relays. Many PBs were achieved. Stand out performances were from Freddy Clampett who won 4 golds and qualified for the GB Championships, the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay team who won a bronze and Jess Milligan achieving two bronzes in 100m and 200m Fly. Onwards to our Spring Meet and then the Regionals!

Out of 26 individual swims in the long distances (400IM, 400m Free, 800m Free and 1,500m Free), 23 were Personal Best Times. With 2020 being a European Masters year, it came as no surprise that the kick off to the new decade for Masters Swimming at the K2 Centre, Crawley saw capacity reached in record time. Over a month before the official close date, events were full as competitors from across not just the Region but all of the UK descended down South with an aim to clock up vital qualifying times ahead of Budapest in July. Such an early curtain call, combined with its earlier annual timing (Olympic Year also lets...

Swimmers from across all of Southampton Swimming Club took part in a very special festive T30 over the weekend as awareness was raised for the well known movement Stand up to Cancer. A total of 45 swimmers from all squads swam as far as they could for 30mins (15mins for our promising Piranhas!) – with a total distance of 55,750m covered over the early hours of Saturday morning. To put that into context, that’s just over twice the distance of the English Channel! More importantly, the Club raised a massive...

Southampton Masters lended its skill and commitment to this year's Inter-County Masters Championships hosted by Sussex at The Pavilions Centre, Horsham. Melissa Dolby (18-24yrs), Sarah Aldridge (45-49yrs) and Maria Bunce (65-69yrs) of City of Southampton combined with the local forces of Fareham Nomads, Basingstoke Bluefins, Portsmouth Northsea, Havant and Waterlooville, Winchester, Hart, Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands both in individuals and relays to take the formidable County to second place behind a resurgent Sussex Squad. The Inter-County Masters Championships takes place each year in November and corresponds on...

Swim England has seen 2019 as its year of celebration for 150yrs of service - with Masters very much at the heart of its mantra 'Sport for Life'. Ponds Forge welcomed Britain's best veterans once again for the annual Short Course Championships....with an abundance of talent suited for its sesquicentenary (yes, I did have to Google that word!) Southampon Masters lined up with both familiar and fresh faces - standing firm against what had to be the strongest lower-age contingent that had ever descended upon the City of Steel. World...

The South East Regional Short Course Masters was almost a non-starter for 2019. Calendar clashes with various local events and domestic club championships stretched officials across all counties, but thanks largely to some fine efforts from outgoing Swim England South East Masters Co-ordinator Geoff Stokes, enough volunteers (including competitors themselves) stepped up to grab a stopwatch and keep this important event in the discipline's diary running for another year! As far as Southampton Masters was concerned however, it was a bit of a contrasting tale. With the event opening so...
