Strong 2nd weekend at the Devon County Championships

Dinnaton Swimming Club deliver an immensely strong start to 2019

Sunday saw the the end of the second weekend of the Devon County Championshipswith Dinnaton Swimming Club’s results (who are based at McCaulays Health Club, Ivybridge), firmly establishing themselves as one of the leading swimming clubs in Devon/the South West!

New Head Coach Nathaniel Rookes undertook his first serious test in charge, since joining from Tavistock Swimming Club, where he had coached since 2010. 

Dinnaton took 17 swimmers to the Life Centre8 of which made County finals.  Pick of the bunch so far was 12 year old Jasmine D’Cunha, who finalled in every one of her events, achieving 2 age group county records, with 33.98 in the 50m breaststroke and 1.14.36 in the 100m breaststroke, currently ranking her 1st in Great Britain – a fantastic achievement.  In the 16 year old age group Ella D’Cunha claimed 3 medals, 1 gold and 2 silvers, in the 50, 100 and 200m breaststroke events. Newcomer Madeline Jones age 10 achieved silver in the 50m back after making county finals in 3 events.  A special mention to Gemma Bennett who has already achieved2 regional qualification times, whilst swimming at her first Devon County Championships.

Nathaniel who had been awarded the Devon Sports Award ‘Young Coach of the Year’ for 2018, an award which recognises the coaching achievements of individuals across Devon aged 25 or under across all sporting disciplineswas overwhelmed by his young teams achievements.  He said “I can’t wait to see what these swimmers can achieve this season as we train towards the Regional Championships in May”.

The Club look forward to an exciting culmination to the championships in 3 weeks time.
