Dartmoor Gala A Success for Development Swimmers

Nathaniel Rookes

12 of our swimmers ventured to Okehampton to take part in the Dartmoor Sprint Meet. From this they gained 31 personal best times, 8 medals and supported each other throughout! Some swimmers have now put themselves into a good position making Devon County Qualification a very real possibility for next year already!

Jasmine Bennett came very close to achieving what would be her first Devon time in the 50 front crawl, clocking a time only 0.01secs off the county time for next year. She picked up a silver medal for her efforts and followed it up with another silver in the 50 breaststroke. Issy Hawling also edged closer to a Devon time in the 50 butterfly, also gaining a silver medal, whilst Holly Haymes ran her close and collected a bronze in the same event.

Jorja Stevens had a very strong gala, gaining 3 personal best times in a competitive age group, coming away with a bronze in the 50 butterfly. Greg Thomas also had a magnificent gala coming away with a gold in the 50 backstroke and 2 silver medals in the 100IM and 50 front crawl. Greg was also awarded 'Best U9 boy' of the competition in recognition of his excellent performances.

Some of these swimmers are in, or have just moved up from our Junior Squad and are already competitive at a Development level, which highlights the fantastic job our Junior Coach, Simone, is doing with our youngest swimmers.
