Swimmers Be Aware, Don't Over Share!
Our GDPR Officer has attended a workshop with the NSPCC and O2 about keeping our children safe online.
It is especially important for our swimmers with phones and their parents to be aware of the risks involved with sharing pictures or personal information poolside over social media or messaging apps.
The most important advice we can give is not to share anything on social media or messaging apps that you wouldn't want the world to see. No matter what your privacy settings there is ALWAYS a risk of someone taking a screenshot and sharing it.
We recommend downloading an app called NetAware or visit net-aware.org.uk where there is invaluable advice, risk-o-meters, reviews of every possible app and all the facts a parent/phone owner should know.
The information on apps such as Instagram, Snapchat and WhatsApp is presented in an appealing format for children, teenagers and parents, and is definitely worth reading with your swimmer.
Social media is not going anywhere - So taking the time to understand the apps and games your children are using will encourage them to talk to you if they have any problems.
