Leicester Sharks 'Trick or Treat' a Spooktacular Success

Mark McKenna

Over Halloween weekend, we were delighted to host our annual "Trick or Treat" Level 3 meet, once again welcoming clubs from around the country to race against our #SharksFamily.

It was a HUGE weekend for our Sharks family as members from seven different squads were involved in the meet alongside clubs from around England and Wales.

It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces as kids came away with medals galore, alongside some of our Spot Prizes for the winners of random heats within each event...

The highlight of the weekend was of course the Medley Skins events!

On Saturday, the girls took the spotlight as the Junior (13 & under) and Senior (14 & over) races. In this elimination event, 8 competitors (The fastest 8 qualifiers from the 200m Individual Medley event) took to the blocks and raced a random 50m event, which was drawn before the heat began.

At the end of the heat, the slowest competitor is eliminated and they are asked to draw the next stroke for the remaining 7 athletes. This continues every 3 minutes until the final two competitors are left in a head to head swim off!

In the Junior age, Ruby from Nottingham Leander and Jessica from Leicester Sharks were head to head into the final 50m with Freestyle being drawn and Ruby taking the victory in this event.

In the Senior age, Abbie from Loughborough and Abby from Leicester Sharks were involved in a Breaststroke race which went down to the wire, with Abby from Sharks taking the victory (And the £30 cash prize!) with Abbie taking second with £20.

On Sunday, it was the Boys turn.

In the Juniors, Tommy from Leicester Sharks and Tobias from Nottingham Leander went head to head in a 50m Breaststroke, with Tommy taking the win and the £30 cash prize after a thrilling few rounds.

In the Seniors, it was an all Sharks affair, as Luca and Tom, both from Leicester Sharks, went head to head in a 50m Butterfly race. Luca took the victory with a stunning 25 seconds swim in his 7th 50m, with Tom posting a very creditable 28 second 50, to finish in 2nd place and claim his £20 cash prize.

The Skin were a great 20 minute finish to each of the morning sessions and really pumped everyone up going into the afternoon sessions, where there was so much fantastic support from the spectator gallery and poolside!

Thank you everyone for making it such a fantastic meet. We can't wait for our County Qualifier now on 18/19th December!
