Beccles Lido 3K and 5K Lockdown Challenge

Hosted by Team Waveney Swimming Club

Team Waveney SC are hosting a charity challenge, raising money for Beccles Lido, a venue used by so many of us during the summer months, but a venue that needs our help during this time to keep this local asset ready for when we can return.

History of the pool:

Beccles Lido was constructed in 1959, in 2004 the council announced plans to close the lido to build an indoor pool in the town (which never happened). 2006 a group called ‘The Friends of Beccles Outdoor Pool’ was formed and set about keeping the pool open for the community. When the council did close the Lido in April 2009, Beccles Lido Limited was created to purchase and re-open the Lido in 2010.

Since taking on the site a huge amount of work has taken place in repairing and upgrading the pool and keeping this historic venue open to us all.

The Challenge:

Normally the Lido will be gearing up to hold it’s annual Triathlon, one of the Beccles biggest sporting events of the year and also a big charity event for the Lido before the start of the summer season.

This of course isn’t taking place this month, so instead we have set about putting together this challenge for the local and wider swimming/running community to take part in.
