National Squad

Details to follow and squad to launch when Bungay pool re-opens

 

Elite Squad

Squad Aims and Objectives:

To compete at County Championships and Regionals, with total commitment to the training program for the squad. Swimmers will be targeting to reach finals at both County Championships and Regionals and qualification into the British/English Summer Championships.

Ages:

14 and over

Accepted Criteria for squad entry:

            ·         To qualify for East Region Long Course Championships or Winter Regionals

·         Proven ability and commitment to following a demanding training program (swimmers, with parental support)

·         A positive mind set, with the ability to take personal responsibility for performances.

·         100% commitment to team events

·         A Team player – polite, supportive, caring and empathetic

·         Consistently attending 90-100% of available agreed sessions (Pool and Land)

Considered Criteria for entry into Squad:

            ·         To have made a final at County Championships

·         To have qualified at OR swimmers assessed by the Head Coach to have near term potential and or having longer term potential may be admitted or retained within a squad on a probationary period of between 3-12 months. The swimmer must be able to show commitment and demonstrable progress towards the overall squad criteria and show improvement (based on goal setting) at designated competitions and within training.

·         Regionals for a 50m event

Swimming Training Basic Criteria:

            ·         Ability to consistently demonstrate 5 fly kicks off all walls/turns in a streamline position

·         Can hold 10x100 free on 1.35 short course holding 1.15

·         Can hold 10x100 IM on 1.55 holding 1.20-1.30

·         Can hold 12x50 Front Crawl kick on 1.20

·         Has a sound ‘grasp’ on training cycles and sessions and are able to take full personal responsibility for their efforts in training sessions and is in line with the expectations of the Head Coach.

Criteria for Squad Exit:

            ·         Unable to attain the relevant performance standard.

·         Consistently late to sessions without agreement.

·         Consistently unable to maintain the Elite Squad training commitment.

·         Consistently unable to maintain the Elite Squad competition commitment.

·         Showing no demonstrable progress towards achieving the required standards for Elite Squad.

·         Training at other clubs or seeking additional coaching/technical sessions outside of the Lead Coaches Planning

Pathways:

            ·         Not meeting criteria – A move into either Performance or Masters

·         Exceeds performance levels – Possibility for move into ‘National Squad’

·         Exit months are December, April and July.

 

Performance Squad

Squad aims and objectives:

To compete at County Championships, with total commitment to the training program for the squad. Swimmers will be targeting to reach finals County Championships and qualification into Summer Regionals.

Ages:

12-17  

Accepted Criteria for squad entry:

            ·         To qualify for County Championships, excluding 50’s for those aged 14 and under.

·         Proven ability and commitment to following a demanding training program (swimmers, with parental support)

·         A positive mind set, with the ability to take personal responsibility for performances.

·         100% commitment to team events

·         A Team player – polite, supportive, caring and empathetic

·         Consistently attending 90-100% of available agreed sessions (Pool and Land)

            ·         To have been within the top 3 of Top Boy/Girl overall at County Developments

·         To have qualified at OR swimmers assessed by the Head Coach to have near term potential and or having longer term potential may be admitted or retained within a squad on a probationary period of between 3-12 months. The swimmer must be able to show commitment and demonstrable progress towards the overall squad criteria and show improvement (based on goal setting) at designated competitions and within training.

·         Can hold 10x100 free on 1.50 short course holding 1.25

·         Can hold 10x100 IM on 2.10 holding 1.30-1.45

·         Can hold 12x50 Front Crawl kick on 1.30

·         Has a sound ‘grasp’ on training cycles and sessions and are able to take full personal responsibility for their efforts in training sessions and is in line with the expectations of the Head Coach.

Criteria for Squad Exit:

            ·         Unable to attain the relevant performance standard.

·         Consistently late to sessions without agreement.

·         Consistently unable to maintain the Performance Squad training commitment.

·         Consistently unable to maintain the Performance Squad competition commitment.

·         Showing no demonstrable progress towards achieving the required standards for Performance Squad.

·         Training at other clubs or seeking additional coaching/technical sessions outside of the Lead Coaches Planning

            ·         Not meeting criteria – A move into either Development or Competitive Squad

·         Exceeds performance levels – Possibility for move into ‘Elite Squad’

·         Exit months are December, April and July.

 

Competitive Squad

Squad aims and objectives:

To compete at County Development Championships, with total commitment to the training program for the squad. Swimmers will be targeting to reach County Championships.

Ages:

10-14 

Accepted Criteria for squad entry:

            ·         To qualify for County Developments.

·         To have passed the Clubs Academy program

·         Proven ability and commitment to following a demanding training program (swimmers, with parental support)

·         A positive mind set, with the ability to take personal responsibility for performances.

·         100% commitment to team events

·         A Team player – polite, supportive, caring and empathetic

·         Consistently attending 80-100% of available agreed sessions

Considered Criteria for entry into Squad:

   ·         To have qualified at OR swimmers assessed by the Head Coach to have near term potential and or having longer term potential may be admitted or retained within a squad on a probationary period of between 3-12 months. The swimmer must be able to show commitment and demonstrable progress towards the overall squad criteria and show improvement (based on goal setting) at designated competitions and within training.

            ·         Ability to consistently demonstrate 3 fly kicks off all walls/turns in a streamline position

·         Can hold 8x100 free on 2.05 short course holding 1.45

·         Can hold 8x100 IM on 2.30 holding 1.50-2.05

·         Can hold 8x50 Front Crawl kick on 1.45

·         Take responsibility for their efforts in training sessions and in line with the expectations of the Squad Coach.

Criteria for Squad Exit: 

·         Unable to attain the relevant performance standard.

·         Consistently late to sessions without agreement.

·         Consistently unable to maintain the Competitive Squad training commitment.

·         Consistently unable to maintain the Competitive Squad competition commitment.

·         Showing no demonstrable progress towards achieving the required standards for Competitive Squad.

·         Training at other clubs or seeking additional coaching/technical sessions outside of the Lead Coaches Planning

Pathways:

·         Not meeting criteria – A move into either Development or Competitive Squad

·         Exceeds performance levels – Possibility for move into ‘Elite Squad’

·         Exit months are December, April and July.

 

Development Pathway – Squad Criteria

 

Development Squad:

Development Squad is the next step up for swimmers from the Gold Academy. The Development Squad is for swimmers who want to either compete at levels under County Championships level or just swim for fitness. There is no commitment criteria and swimmers can attend as frequently or infrequently as they like. However, if swimmers want to improve in their skills and fitness then regular attendance is recommended.

Team Waveney Academy Structure

Team Waveney Swimming Club Academy starts with Bronze Academy, which forms an extension to the Sentinel Leisure Lesson program. New members wishing to join the club from any swim lesson program, do so through the Team Waveney Academy. New swimmers are invited for a trial at the club, trials happen during the first week of each month.

 

The Academy Program is focused on skills development sand development of stamina. In the Bronze Academy Program swimmers are expected to have passed Stage 8 and hold three strokes over 50m, have basic Butterfly skills and be able to hold this stroke over 25m. Additionally work is started on developing basic diving skills.

Swimmers progress to the Silver Academy, once they are able to hold all fours strokes over 50m and are able to carry out basic front crawl and backstroke turns, in addition to demonstrating basic diving ability and basic endurance swimming.

The Gold Academy is the next stop, for those swimmers able to hold three good strokes over 100m and able to hold 50m of good Butterfly technique. In this group swimmers are expected to be able to execute a good understanding of all four turns and competitive starts. Swimmers are also expected to be able to swim 200m Front Crawl demonstrating good technique and turns.

The goal of our Academy Program is to ensure the best development of young swimmers and provide the right platform and foundations for swimmers to progress into higher levels of the club.
