Welcome to Modernian Swimming Club

We are a Bedford-based community swimming club for 3 - 19 year olds, run by volunteers as a Not for Profit organisation.  All surplus from our learn to swim lessons (circa 300 regular attendees) is reinvested back into the club and helps to subsidise the training programme that so many local swim athletes benefit from. This enables the club to be open to all members of the community and use a reserve fund to enable children from financially disadvantaged backgrounds to not only learn to swim, but also to train and compete in swimming meets and championships.

The Modernian Swimming Club was established by Charlie Wilson in 1965. Charlie had coached at all levels from grass roots through to the National Squad. Interest in the club grew and it soon became apparent there was a need for the club to expand and Teaching, Bridging, Junior, Senior, Masters and Life saving groups were developed. Modernian SC became Bedfordshire's premier swimming club.

We are all about swimming, from grassroots lessons that have taught thousands of children from across Bedfordshire to swim over the years, up to competitive squad with swimmers competing at national level. Our competitive squads usually train up to 12 hours a week.

Swimming provides an enormous boost to mental health and wellbeing and equips participants with confidence and other important attributes such as perseverance, hard work and commitment.

Our main aim at Modernian Swimming Club is to create an environment that is both safe and challenging whilst allowing every swimmer to reach their full potential. Our Programme Is Coach Driven, Athlete Focused and Supported by our dedicated Committee members and Parents.  Find our more about our club vision by clicking here.

We welcome new swimmers to lessons and competitive squads at any time throughout the year.
