Potters Bar Swimming Club

Governance

The club is governed by a committee made up of volunteers. The purpose of the committee is to ensure the club is run effectively by adhering to the Swim England WavePower rules and polices (These can be found on the Swim England website), is financially viable, and provides a safe, fun, and challenging environment for our swimmers to develop as people, as well as swimmers.

The structure of the committee is made of three key roles, plus a number of other roles. You do not need to have a specific role to be on the committee either, as we value additional support as well.

  • Chairman
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Assistant Treasurer
  • Vice Chairman
  • Welfare Officer
  • Membership Secretary
  • Gala Secretary
  • Records Secretary

Additionally, everyone on the committee is there to provide knowledge, viewpoints, and guidance, as well as provide votes for anything that might need to be decided to help run the club.

The club would like to have representation from all squads, including Learn To Swim, and Masters, so that the committee understands the challenges and viewpoints that are specific to those squads.

It is important that we get new volunteers to support the club by joining the committee. Without this, the club will struggle to survive.

The commitment required, in general, is not too much, although some roles take more time than others.

The committee meet once per month for an hour, usually on the first Thursday of the month, and can also provide zoom virtual metings for those that can't attend in person.

Additional Volunteering:

If you can't commit to the governance of the club, we also need help at galas with Team Managers, Competition Judges, Timekeepers, and just general help. Again, these roles do not take up much time, and if you are supporting your swmmers at a competition this can really make a difference! Training is provided in these roles.

Note that some roles will require CRB checks and Safeguarding.

If you can spare some time, it will really help the club and your swimmers!
