Interested in joining our swimming club? Come along for a trial!

We hold swim trials two or three times over the course of the year.  Notice of these will be posted on our online calendar, be advertised on our noticeboard at the pool and through social media, and be sent out through Active Schools.  For the most part we are looking for members to join our Swimming Development Sessions in the 6-10 year old age category.  Applicants should be confident in the water without flotation aids and be able to perform at least 2 lengths (50m) each of front crawl, back crawl and breastroke for 6-8 year olds and 4 lengths (100m) for 9-10 year olds. Applications should also be at Level 5 in swimming lessons or equivalent.

If you are interested in attending one of our trials, please contact the Club Secretary on [email protected].

So what happens after trials?

Once your child has been invited to join Garioch Amateur Swimming Club they will be slotted in to a Session or Squad.  The times of training sessions are in your offer of membership letter and current training times can also be seen here.  Most swimmers start in Session 1 before moving onwards to Session 2 and Development.  These training sessions will enable you and your child to 'learn the ropes' of competitive swimming.  You will then progress onwards to Squad 1 and 2 where the routine of early morning swims are embedded before progressing to Squads 3-5.

There are a number of document that need to be read, understood and signed by both parent and child when you agree to join GASC.  These will be sent to you in our Online Membership Pack.  One parent / guardian and each child will also need to join Scottish Swimming as a member to make sure that we are insured for you.  Once registered you will receive a SASA membership number which will be used if you compete or attend courses.  Information on how to join is also available in the Membership Pack.  It is important your child joins as soon as possible because uninsured children in the water can void the entire club's insurance.

How much will it cost?

Club fees are determined by the Club Committee and may be subject to change each year.  Fees are fixed and no reduction can be given for non attendance.  Queries regarding payment can be made direct to the club treasurer on [email protected].

There are four different types of fees that are required to be paid by club members:

Annual Club Membership Paid upon joining the club and thereafter in  May each year, this fee covers the general running costs and is non-refundable.
Annual SASA Membership Paid in March each year, this is the cost of membership of the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association.  Membership is compulsory for all club members and for one parent per swimmer and is non-refundable.
Swimming Fees Paid either annually in full or by monthly standing order, this fee simply covers the cost of water time (pool hire)
Swim Meet Fees Ever swim that your child is eligible for will incur a fee.  The entry fee must be paid in advance before the closing date of the competition entry and are paid on a per-competition basis through a bank transfer or monthly standing order.
