A Squad

To achieve a place in this squad, swimmers must be currently within 2% of Irish Age Group/Youth Qualifying time and be competent at training at a minimum pace or 1.35 for front crawl training sets.

Swimmers here can also avail of additional Leinster Long Course Training in the NAC.

Kit required: Fins, Kick Board, Pullbuoy, Snorkel, 1 or 2 sets of paddles and finger paddles, ankle pulling strap. Great attitude, fantastic work ethic and sense of humour.

Development A

To gain entry to the Development A Squad, swimmers will have both the physical & psychological skills necessary to train/compete at this level.

Swimmers will show a keen interest in being part of a club structure and be engaged with the coaching process. Swimmers will have good technical base in all four strokes and be working towards achieving qualification in Irish Age Group Division 1 & 2 (will be within 2% of Division 2 qualifying time).

An ability to train hard, follow the coaching processes, support their team-mates, all while enjoying their pool time will help these swimmers towards achieving their goals.

Kit required: Fins, Kick Board, Pullbuoy, Snorkel, 1 set of hand paddles. Great attitude, fantastic work ethic and sense of humour.

B Squad

In Line with Long Term Athlete Development, this Squad consists of swimmers from age 9 upwards who would be expected to train towards Irish Age Groups Division 2 and some will be aiming Division 1 Irish Age Groups.

We will also recommend that some of these swimmers participate in the additional Long course training opportunities that Leinster offers at weekends.

Kit required: Fins, Kick Board, Pullbuoy, Snorkel, 1 or 2 sets of paddles and finger paddles. Great attitude, fantasic work ethic and sense of humour.

Swimfit

Swimmers who have finished competitive swimming or late entering the sport and want to get fit and learns skills and drills.

A great way for teenagers to stay fit. Often members of this squad would go on to become qualified lifeguards.

 


Dolphins

This squad consists of swimmers age 8 to 10 years. Further development of skills and work towards completion of 200m event and 200IM by season end. Some swimmers may achieve Irish Age Group Division 2 times.

Kit required: Kickboard and Fins, good goggles uitable for training and racing, a club cap for training and racing.

Minnows

This squad consists of swimmers age 7 to 10 years. (Entry Level). Introduction to Club Swimming, development of skills in all strokes, learn competition starts and turns.

The first gala for this group is usually the closed club gala held in December and then in January they will progress to Age Group galas appropriate to their development level.

Kit required: Kickboard and Fins, good goggles suitable for training and racing, a club cap for training and racing.

Tadpoles

Swimmers should be comfortable in the water.They should be able to swim 15 metres on their front and back using arms and legs.They should have basic knowledge in breathing to the side for front crawl.

Tadpoles will build on current technique for the front crawl and backstroke and will learn basic drills for breaststroke and butterfly, getting them ready for the move in to Minnows.

There will be 4 terms of 10 weeks each. Exact dates will be communicated upon joining.

Note that entry age is 7, however 6 year olds will be reviewed on a case by case basis.
