Junior Section
Our Aims
Teaching swimmers
At Hillingdon Swimming Club Junior Section we have classes that cater for a wide range of ages and abilities from beginner level through to advance. Through our teaching plan we aim to develop children into potential club swimmers by concentrating on the four swimming strokes with the emphasis on good technique at all stages.
Our class sizes are 6 or 7 children to a class teacher for our 30 minute beginner and improver classes. Beginners classes are in the small pool and are supported by helpers who work in the water to support the children, under the instruction of the class teacher. Our helpers have had training and achieved the Swim England Young Aquatic Helpers qualification. Group size increases for our 1 hour advanced classes.
Our staff of teachers and helpers is primarily made up of current/former competitive swimmers of the club. We take pride in developing the older swimmers in our club into swimming teachers and we train, develop and mentor them within our Junior Section.
All our teachers are Swim England qualified, DBS checked and have undergone safeguarding training.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you lessons take place?
Highgrove Pool, Hume Way, Ruislip, HA4 8DZ. We use the small (teaching) pool and the main pool.
Find it on Google Maps
When do you lessons take place?
Our lessons are 3.30pm-5.30pm on Sundays only. We run 3 blocks of 13 weeks through the year during term time. We do not have a half time break.
If my child misses their lesson can they make it up another time?
Unfortunately missed lessons cannot be made up.
How do you group the children?
Children are grouped with those with a similar ability and technique. Good technique is paramount and children will often spend longer swimming shorter distances to develop their technique and to ensure a smooth transition to longer distance swimming. Children are not grouped by stage as per other lesson providers.
What badges do you do?
Our beginner groups start by working on Duckling Awards. We do Stages 1-7 and Distance awards from 5m-1500m. Our most advanced swimmers will also work towards their Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.
Where can I watch my child’s lesson?
Parents are not permitted on poolside but can view the lessons from the gallery. Children are not to be left unsupervised in the building and are the responsibility of parents/carers when they are not in their lesson.
How do I pay my fees?
Fees are payable via bank transfer only and must be paid by the end of the current term to secure a place for the following term. Communication is sent to all parents towards the end of the current term with details about the new term including when the payment window is open.
Current fees per child, per term are: 30 minute classes - £100, 1 hour classes - £115.
HSC Junior Section Refund Policy
Lessons missed for any reason cannot be made up at another time or be transferred to a sibling unless there are extenuating medical circumstances. If a long term medical condition arises please contact the Membership Secretary and provide medical evidence for consideration.
As we require prepayment for the term of lessons, a refund is only given if cancellation is made prior to the term having started. Any refunds will be minus a £10 cancellation/admin fee per child. We are unable to offer refunds once the place has been accepted and the term has started.
In the case of pool/pools not being in operation due to technical faults we will extend the current term where possible, if not, the credit will be offset against the following term. Credits are non-transferable to other swimmers.
Lessons cancelled due to the Covid lockdown arrangements
January 2021 fees were adjusted accordingly to take into account the 4 sessions missed due to Highgrove having to shut their pools again for 4 weeks in November 2020. As we had to end the term 1 lesson early in December 2020, this will be added on to the new term so the children will receive 14 lessons. Lessons will commence when we are given the go ahead and the fees will cover the 14 weeks from the first session. Again, these session credits which have given adjusted fees, are non-transferable to other swimmers.
