Laois Marlins were making waves at the Leinster Development Gala on Sunday October 6th in the National Aquatic Centre. A squad of 39 swimmers took part from Laois Marlins, the largest number from the club ever to attend a gala. For some of the swimmers it was their first time to swim in such an event and their first to experience the National Aquatic Centre. This year Laois Marlins had 2 of their own home grown Swimmers, achieve qualification times for the Irish National Championships in The National Aquatic Centre Dublin. Samuel Bourke-Carey & Kuba Krawczun achieved the times required. Unfortunately Kuba, was away for the Nationals this year, however he has his sights firmly sent on competing there next year. The Irish Age Group Division 2 Championships is one of the top Swim meets in the Irish Calendar for young swimmers. This Championship takes place in June, at the University College of Limerick Sports Campus. This meet is a Level 4 Short Course Gala, meaning the times achieved here can qualify these young swimmers for the National Short Course Championships Later this year. The Laois Marlins Swim Club Christmas Fun Gala caused Waves of Excitement on Saturday the 1st December! This is The Laois Marlins Annual Winter Gala and it is a firm favourite with many of the neighbouring Swim Clubs, as it is aimed at those younger swimmers just starting off their Gala Experience or those trying to improve on previous swim times. The last Gala of 2017 for Laois Marlins was held at the Watershed, Kilkenny at the beginning of December. Fourteen swimmers competed at what was a very competitive gala. There was a gold, silver and bronze medal for Sadhbh Moore, who had a great evening swimming PB’s on her three 50m swims. Samuel Bourke-Carey and Caoimhe Moore both won a silver medal in the 100 Breaststroke and Fionn Cuddy won a bronze medal in a PB time for the 50m Back.
