War Memorial 2021

Swim Ulster Commemorated the 100th Edition of this meet in the very impressive new South Lake Leisure Centre in Craigavon.

This is one of the highlight meets of the season in Ulster and was sorely missed in 2020. Looking forward to a return to an unrestricted meet in 2022.

Due to the venue restrictions we where only able to selected a team of 26 swimmers, essentially if we choose, that would equate to one team per event, originally we had over 60 swimmers selected, so to attend this gala was pretty special.

Swimmer of the meet has to go to 11 year old Ben McCrum who stepped in with less that 5 hours notice, at his first ever swim meet and first time at the long course venue. Ben showed great tenacity and resilience to crack on with his swim after a wee equipment failure on his dive, no bother to him, quick readjustment and off he went.

We decided to go with the team we selected as we thought we could get a team into each of the 10 event finals, and that we did. We where the only club on the night to have relay teams qualify for all 10 out of 10 finals. Fantastic effort.

Everyone had a fantastic night of racing, great team spirit, plenty of noise and one or two very close finishes that Lisburn managed to take the touch.

The swimmers showed great respect during the remembrance ceremony as did all who attended the meet.

Thanks to our four super LCSC officials on the night and to all who helped run the gala #volunteersaregolden. Thanks to Swim Ulster  for hosting.
