2 x Ulster Junior Records For Lisburn Swimmers
At the recent Irish Short Course Championship in Dublin two of our swimmers had the distinction of breaking an Ulster Junior Record.
Having gone agonisingly and perhaps surpisingly close to the record at the Ulster Short Course Champs in October, Adam Colgan broke the Ulster Junior Record in the 200 Butterfly besting the time set by Ards man Paddy Johnston in November 2018. Adam's time of 2:02.06 seconds set in the heats, smashed the previous record by over 1.5 seconds (2:03.65). Adam went on to be crowned Irish Senior and Junior Champion in the final in a time of 2:02.47.
Dylan Registe was also in record breaking form taking down the 50 Freestyle record previously held by Callum Bain of Cookstown (22.94) this record had stood since December 2014. Dylan cruised into the final in a time of 23.00 and after making a few adjustments in the final, shaved 5 hundredths off the old record to set a new time of 22.89 seconds and realising a long term goal of going under 23 seconds for 50 Freestyle - also the first Lisburn swimmer to ever do so. Dylan was awarded junior bronze finishing 6th in the final overall.
Brilliant swimming from both boys who were both novice 10/11 year old swimmers at one stage. A lot can happen in a few years and a lot more can happen in a few more.
I think this is a great example for all of our up and coming swimmers as to what can be achieved when we keep believing and work hard.
