Swimming
Within Lisburn City Swimming Club we organise our swimmers into different squads based on age and technique.
There are 6 squads in our competitive swimming programme.
The entry criteria for each squad is listed separately, and final decision regarding squad moves is made by the Head Coach.
The entry level squad is SWIM ACADEMY BRONZE (SAB). These usually, although not exclusively consist of our youngest swimmers that have completed our club Learn To Swim programme or have transferred from another swim school following assessment by our Head Coach. This is the introduction to competitive swimming for most of them, taking part in our yearly Club Championships and club time trials. Some may also be selected for Aquasprints (local Junior Swimming League – up to 11 years).
As their ability and maturity progress, the swimmer moves up to SWIM ACADEMY SILVER (SAS) and then SWIM ACADEMY GOLD (SAG) with increasing pool time.
Moving on to AGE GROUP SQUAD (AGS), they continue along their competitive pathway, having a mix of teens and pre teens!
Our 2 “senior squads” are NJS (National Junior Squad) and NSS (National Senior Squad). The club captains are selected from these 2 every year. They are usually of secondary school age and have the physical and mental maturity to cope with the demands of longer and more intense sessions. NSS have swimmers ranging between 15 – 28 years, including 2 triathletes that have represented Ireland at International level and University students that still love competitive swimming.
