Donate unwanted swim gear to help Afghan families

Miranda Ludden

Dulwich Dolphins is launching a charity drive to help some of the thousands of Afghan families who fled their country just weeks ago and are waiting in hotels to be rehoused and settled into new lives.

Many have access to pools (in theory at least), either in their hotels, or via local authority passes which allow them use of community facilities. But they can’t use them because they don’t have costumes, or any of the other things which our swimmers take for granted - from goggles, hats and bags through to floats and even swim towels.

Please could parents/swimmers donate anything they think might be useful:

Adult swim costumes, children’s swim costumes, any baby float costumes, swimming goggles, hats, swim noodles or floats that younger kids might use to help them in the water, swimming bags and kids swim towels, or towels useful for the pool.

You can hand it in person at any Sharks, Academy, Dolphins, Bronze or Silver session (to Kiri Mitchell or Sue Mitchell).

We would like to have a swim session in a couple of weeks where some of our swimmers meet the families and get to play in the water with the children. We will also be inviting journalists along because if we can make this work it might inspire other swim clubs to do something similar. If you (parents and swimmers) would be interested in this please could you email us: [email protected]

Thanks so much

Sue Mitchell (Co-Chair)
