Training Guidelines for squad swimmers

Leander is a competitive swimming club for swimmers who want to work towards competing at County, Regional and National level. At the younger age groups your swimmer/s will start by competing at internal galas and, as they work through the squads, will be asked to compete at external open meets.  At Leander we believe swimming is not only a life skill that is essential, but is also a healthy lifetime activity that can take you into other water-based activities.

To get the most out of the club swimmers will need to attend and commit an amount of time to attend sessions. We find the more a swimmer attends the more they enjoy, as they progress, achieve and stay with their teammates through the levels. Less attendance has the reverse effect, as their friends move up without them and progress can cease.

We ask for a minimum attendance - minimum recommended sessions per week are

As a guide we ask that the swimmers try to attend all of the allotted squad sessions on a regular basis, this includes the S&C sessions. We are trying to establish a regular routine from the start of their swimming journey. If your child trains at school in a school swim squad we will consider this as one of their sessions.

If the required minimum attendance is not met, there will be a discussion with swimmer/parents and recommendations will be made for a move to an appropriate squad.

We hope your child will enjoy swimming at Leander and fulfil their potential.
