Young Swimmers continue improvement at the London Region Age Group Champs

Bram Montgomery

After many strong performances from the older Brompton swimmers at the Youth Regionals, our top age groupers (11-14 years old) were excited to hit the water at the LAC and Crystal Palace to test themselves against the best young swimmers in the region.

Overall our young swimmers hit lifetime bests in 22/30 races, broke 3 LCM club records, and having only qualified 4 swimmers a year ago, coming into the meet with 7 swimmers was a marked improvement already. Positive results across the 4 days of racing showed the hard work our swimmers and coaches have been doing in training is beginning to move the club in the right direction.

Leading the way was double medalist Mia who took silver in the Girls 12 years 50m Freestyle and Bronze in the 100m freestyle. Mia also made the championship finals in a further 3 races. Anabelle won a Bronze medal in the Girls 12 years 50m Backstroke and Saint was our lone Regional Champion winning the Gold Medal in the Boys 11-12 years old 50m Freestyle.

Also making finals were Imogen (girls 13 years old 200m Backstroke) and Kynan (Boys 13 years old 100 Back, 200 Back, and 200 Free), and swimming for her first time ever in a 50m pool was Ella from the County Squad who has shown that hard work and consistent training leads to big improvements.
