2019 Milton Keyes Junior League- Round 1 Performances show Brompton Belong with the Best

Bram Montgomery

Although the club finished 3rd in last year's Division 2 table, we were given a place in this season's top division due to another team pulling out of the league. With the season goal of "staying up" our short term goal for the 1st round was to not finish last; 4th out of the 5 teams would have been a strong result especially considering we were missing a number of our swimmers due to the school holidays.

The swimmers who did make it to represent the team raced with pride and enthusiasm, leading the club to not only meet our goal of not coming last, but all the way up to 3rd place and within touching distance of 2nd! While Guildford City SC were in a class of their own (they have over 1000 members and have been National Junior and Senior League Champions recently), the young Brompton swimmers impressed by not backing down and raised their games hitting lifetime bests in almost every swim! The team who finished in 4th behind us were in the top half of last years final table so beating them on the night bodes well.

We were lead by Ralph with 3 victories including one against the boys in the age group above (that swim set a new Brompton SC record for 10-11 year olds). Ralph had the busiest night racing in 3 individual events and 4 relays! Saint and Olivia also won individual races giving us a total of 5 wins on the night.

The coaches would like to thank the parents who came along to Teddington to support our swimmers. We have about 4 weeks until the 2nd round so for now it's back to work in training so that we can have more great swims next month and beyond. There are no short cuts in swimming so get to the pool!
