Important: Annual General Meeting 2022

Josh Muir

Dear Members,

Your club needs your help, or we may soon not have a club!

The Menzieshill Whitehall Swimming & Water Polo club Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place on Monday 14 March 2022, from 7–9 pm on Microsoft Teams.

The AGM is a meeting of all members and parents/carers to discuss the club's affairs, agree on committee members for the year ahead, and change the constitution. It is when committee members step down and new members take up their posts.

Your club needs you.

We need new volunteers to take up positions on the club management committee. If we do not get new volunteers, the club cannot continue to function.

We have an unsustainable number of vacancies – six out of seventeen positions. This is impacting the day-to-day running of the club and means that a diminished number of volunteers must take on more than their share of work. This is not reasonable, and we cannot continue to operate in this way.

If we can fill all committee positions, each holder can perform a single role – and have a much smaller workload.

Getting more volunteers will put our club in the best possible position for the future. It will put us in the best stead to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. It will allow us to get more local kids into the water to enjoy Swimming and Water Polo.

No qualifications are required to join the club committee. New holders will receive extensive support and guidance from existing members and previous post holders. Committee roles are flexible and can be adjusted to fit your existing commitments – they can also be taken up as a job share.

The committee oversees the running of the club and consists of a group of volunteer parents and supporters. The committee's duties are broad; finances, membership, pool hire, arranging competitions, discipline, social activities, coaching matters and matters involving liaising with the Scottish Swimming. These are just a few. Every year we teach children to swim, coach to improve and compete in swimming and children/youths/adults are coached and taught to play and compete at Water Polo. This cannot continue without the commitment of parents in the running of the club.

How can I get involved?

  • Stand for the committee.

  • Attend the meeting, vote and make your voice heard.

  • Propose a change to the bylaws.

  • Propose a change to the constitution.
