West District RD 2

North Ayrshire swimmers had another excellent weekend at the second round of the West District Short Course Championships at Tollcross. This time we had 33 swimmers racing over the weekend with 14 years & over on the Saturday and 13 years & under on the Sunday. As was the case in round 1, some swimmers were racing at their first West Districts and their first time at Tollcross. It was again great to see swimmers choosing to race in some the middle-distance and long-distance races such as the 1500 free, 800 free, 400 free and 400 IM.

The swimmers achieved 46 top ten placings with 7 of these gold medals, 5 silver medals and 3 bronze medals. It feels great when the swimmers medal or drop time but over the last couple of West Districts, I have enjoyed watching the improvement in the swimmers’ skills such as approaching the wall at speed and knowing when to keep their head down and when to breathe when racing. The swimmers understanding of how to race each event is improving as they take on board the coach’s feedback and gain more experience racing again. There will always be things to work on which is a good thing as that is how we improve for the next time.

The swimmers deserve so much credit over the last 2 West Districts as their hard work and dedication to the sport has been clear to see.  We now have a couple of weekends with no competitions before we hit a busy March which includes our Club Championships and the first round of the Mini League 2022.
