University of Aberdeen Age Group Open Meet

Derek Cowie

14 year old Fraser Cowie was our sole representative at this meet, choosing 4 races on the Sunday of the meet. This was the first time Fraser had stayed away from home before a meet so was great experience for him.

His first race was the 200m IM where his goal was to swim his breaststroke split faster than he did at SNAGS and in managing this, he also qualified for the 14/15 years final.

Fraser then managed personal bests in his next 2 races, 100m freestyle and 200m backstroke. This was all the more impressive considering he had raced these events at SNAGS just 2 weeks previously. He finished 8th on his 200m backstroke and just missed the final on the freestyle. He also just missed the final on the 100m butterfly with a time faster than his entry time but just off the fantastic swim he had in that event at SNAGS.

Fraser’s 5th race of the day was his final in the 200m IM. He had another good split on his breaststroke to finish in 9th place. Fraser enjoyed his experience racing away from home, long course and against different competitors than he usually races.
