Hydro Novices

We had an extremely successful start to the novice competition season at Hydro Novices in Harrogate a few weeks ago. We took a team of twenty three divers and brought back five medals.

Group E saw our youngest but quite experienced divers; Felix and Livia. Felix had a very consistent competition and is still diving up an age group. Livia also had a solid competition and was rewarded with a sliver medal, which is her third medal since she started competing last December.

In Group B we had three of our Mini A divers competing. Georgina had a steady competition and placed in the top five; Albany took home the bronze medal after scoring over 37 points on her new twist dive on three metre springboard. Archie also went into the competition with a new twist dive on three meter but it was his last dive, inward one and a half on three meter that secured his silver medal, after he scored over 40 points for the dive.

We had five divers in the Boys Group D event, and to represent the club we had a mixture of E Squad, E Squad Both and Development divers. Nathan and Joe placed twelfth and eleventh respectfully after some amazing scores but with some areas to work on with their one metre dives. Charlie placed seventh after a very nice forward tuck roll, George came sixth with a solid list but some work to do on his reverse dive and Curtis just missed out on a medal in fourth by three points.

Surprisingly this competition only saw twelve girls in the Group C event and four of those were our very own Leeds girls. Leah came eleventh in a tough competition; Evelyn placed in the top six after a slight drop of her reverse dive. George had a fantastic competition and narrowly missed out on a medal by less than half a point. Evie had the most amazing start to her competition season with an extremely consistent list of dives and got Leeds our only gold medal of the event and her first ever medal!

In the Boys D event, James finished fifteenth, he had two high scoring dives on poolside but needed to push for higher dive difficulty on the other boards. Liam placed thirteenth and used his new reverse dive for the first time, Danny came eleventh and even scored an eight on his back jump tuck. Sam had a very solid competition and came in the top seven and Elliot was our highest placing boy, with a stunning last dive that scored two nines, he gave us our second bronze of the day and his first ever medal!

The last event of the day saw the Group D girls dive. Lottie tried out her inward dive for the first time and placed thirtieth in her second competition. Willow came seventeenth after she scored nines on poolside in her return to the novice scene. Francesca and Paige finished eleventh and tenth scoring eights and nines throughout their competition.

Yet again we had some of our Leeds volunteers helping to run the event so a massive thank you from all of us at Leeds Diving. Ann without you we couldn’t run any diving event as smoothly as you do. Leanne and Leah thank you for your help on poolside and a huge thank you to our two new coaches Saffron and Lara that helped out with a lot of the judging; thank you to everyone for giving up your Sunday once again, it is very much appreciated.

Well done to our team of divers, every competition is a learning experience for divers, coaches and parents but what a great way to start the season. Now to look forward to see what the rest of the year will bring for Leeds Diving!
