Water Polo News
Coach Julie Pugh was in Sunderland yesterday watching 5 of our under 15 girls play in the National Age Group Water Polo Championships. Four of our girls were playing for Sedgefield (in their debut at the competition) and 1 of our girls was playing for Sheffield.
The two teams were in different groups and often played simultaneously on different pitches, so Julie had a busy time following the action, but she did manage to catch both teams and has this report.
"Sedgefield had a hard time, but the girls played their hearts out and improved match by match, gelling as a team. They finished up in the 9th/10th play off, unfortunately losing to Nova Centurian 13-3 to finish 10th. It was a valuable experience for the girls and all of them finished with a smile on their face. This competition was a step up compared to previous tournaments and the girls did themselves proud.
Sheffield fared better, finishing second in their group, putting them into the semifinals which unfortunately they lost. They then faced Manchester in the bronze medal match which they won convincingly 14-6. Congratulations to our Durham Dragon who played for Sheffield. Like the other girls, she put her heart and soul into competing in a national competition.
Congratulations to all 5 of our Durham Dragons".
Well done girls and many thanks to Julie!
