Becoming an Official

This is an introduction into the world of the swimming official. Parents and volunteers are encouraged to become timekeepers so that they can help out at our internal competitions (club champs and time trials). There is a short online course to complete (approx. 60 mins) and then a practical session on poolside. That's it! You're a qualified timekeeper. To enrol on the course, just follow the link or use the 'contact us' link below.

Judge 1

This is the next qualification level and it is designed to help you understand the roles of a:

  • timekeeper
  • chief timekeeper
  • inspector of turns
  • chief inspector of turns

Again, there is an online theory course to complete followed by a period of mentoring in each of the above roles, leading to sign-off in each of the competences.

Judge 2

Usually taken after a period of consolidation of Judge 1 knowledge, Judge 2 encompasses the role and duties of all aspects of judging and the theoretical role and duties of starter.

Judge 2S - Starter

Candidates wishing to qualify as a starter will be required to hold the Judge 2 qualification and have completed a minimum of 20 hours post qualification experience as Judge level 2.

Qualifying as a referee is a great achievement and you wil be an enormous asset to your club. Becoming a referee requires an intensive period of training followed by a formal exam. Take a look at this link to see if it's for you.
