ONB County Pathway Programme 2020

As you are aware, Swim England has cancelled forthcoming events due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Swimmers were notified on 18 Mar of the sad decision to cancel our Pathway Camps to ensure the health and well-being of our athletes, coaches and volunteers. Ideally we would like to rearrange the pathway camps and this will be looked into but it may not prove to be possible.  We would like to apologise to everyone for the disappointment this causes. Jo Ulyett will be in touch when the situation changes.

5 Mar 2020 Update:  'Congratulations to those swimmers who have just been selected for the County Development Camp.  Selected swimmers and their clubs have been notified'.

The ONB County Pathway Programme is aimed at developing and supporting the County Age Group Swimmer.

Please find here details of the ONB County Pathway Programme 2020.

The ONB County Pathway Programme Camps are a joint venture with England Programmes, to provide not only development opportunities for the County’s 11yr old (2009 born) swimmers, but also similar opportunities for the “team” around them – coaches, team managers, parents and guardians. The programme is engaging with 25 athletes in the 11 year old age group. Age as at 31st December in the year of competition, therefore born 2009. Each athlete is required to attend three camps. These camps are taking place at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Aylesbury on:

  • Sunday 29th March
  • Sunday 28th June
  • Sunday 27th September

The syllabus for the camps has been prescribed by the nationally focussed Swim England Talent team to ensure a seamless development pathway within the sport. Across the three camps, the programme aims to provide swimmers the opportunity to:

Learn how to use the aquatic alignment as the foundation for excellent stroke techniques on both rotational strokes (Freestyle and Backstroke) and the anti-rotational strokes (Breaststroke and Butterfly).

Understand and adopt the correct streamlined position off the walls and transition effectively through the underwater phase to the surface.

Away from the pool, fundamental movement skills will be covered in strength and conditioning sessions.

Learn about nutrition, lifestyle management and key technical considerations for the four competitive strokes.

The Head Coach on the ONB Camps is Amanda Ford (Abingdon Vale SC), who is supported by other club coaches.

Here are a selection of photographs from the 2019 County Pathway Programme.  All the swimmers thoroughly enjoyed the camps, which included land work, pool sessions and education workshops.
