About us
Orpington Ojays Swimming Club was formed in September 1998 when the original Orpington Swimming Club, founded just after the Walnuts Leisure Centre was built in 1973, merged with the younger club Orpington Juniors Swimming Club, known verbally as O.J.'s. These two successful swimming clubs came together to form a 'centre of Swimming Excellence'.
The Club's home pool is The Walnuts Leisure Centre and we also train at Biggin Hill and Eltham College, as well as school pools at St Dunstan’s and Warren Road. In total around 55 hours of pool time is currently offered plus teaching programmes.
All our teachers and coaches are experienced, fully qualified and CRB checked. The Club is very proud, that once again, it has been awarded Swim 21 status, the quality mark of the ASA.
Learn to Swim
The Club runs a Learn to Swim School for children aged 4 years to 9 years old, with structured classes based on age and ability held at Warren Road on Saturday mornings. Small classes are designed to be fun and build up confidence and safety in the water. Children start in a warm shallow training pool and progress to deeper pools when ready.
Tadpoles
Tadpoles Training Academy is for younger swimmers (usually age 7 – 10) who have learnt the basics and want to continue to develop skills and stamina. Small classes enable swimmers to progress at a pace and a level to suit them. After reaching the required standard, swimmers will have the opportunity to join the club and train within a squad system.
Squads
Squad swimmers typically train between two and seven times a week dependent upon age and ability.
The Club's fully coached six tier Competitive Squad System is for children and adults and extends swimming into structured, intensive training. The Club encourages excellence in swimming at all standards and participates in a number of swimming leagues at differing levels. It hosts its own annual Open Meets which attracts swimming club members from across Kent and surrounding areas. It also holds a number of club gala’s limited to members of the club.
Masters
Master's Swimming is aimed at adults wishing to continue to swim in a friendly, club-based, environment either as a casual swimmer or to continue their competitive swimming career.
