Swimming Squad Expectations

Camden Swiss Cottage Swim Club swim across a number of locations in North London. Depending on the squad to which a swimmer qualifies there will be varying criteria/levels of commitment that the swimmer will have to adhere to. Please see our squad pages for more information. 

Performance Squads - 8+yrs Moving through Regional, National and International Level. High Levels of commitment expected.

Competitive Squads - 9+yrs Working towards County and Regional Standard. Core training group with good levels of commitment expected.

Academy - 7-9 yrs Introduction to competitive swimming for swimmers direct out of lessons.

Development Squads - 10+yrs Swimmers staying in the sport but not competing and training for fun.

Masters - 18+yrs Swimmers staying competitive in the sport as a pastime.

Trying out for the squads

In order to participate in a trial, a swimmer must be competent across all 4 strokes (front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly). Disability swimmers should be able to confidently swim a minimum distance of 25m unaided in deep water.

Trial Days and Times

Trials are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays 5.30pm depending on demand. You must complete the swim trial form in order to book a trial. Swimmers arriving on the day without official confirmation will not be accepted. Please be aware that requests for trials are high and you may not be invited to the next scheduled trial if it is oversubscribed.

All trials take place at the Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre, Adelaide Rd London NW3 3NF.

Swimmers aged 7 to 11 years(In particular we are targeting swimmers aged 7-9 years old) Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5.30pm

Swimmers aged 12 to 18 years old of a high level are scheduled at Head Coach's discretion

Swimmers aged 18 years and over(Adult/Masters swimmers) scheduled at the Masters coaches discretion 

Trial Process

Once your trial is complete you will be contacted with the results within 5 working days. At that time you may be invited to join one of the squads or recommended further lessons.

Academy Taster Sessions & 60 day Trial Offer - should your swimmer be successful in their trial and potentially selected for (not exclusively) Academy Squads, your swimmer will be invited to attend 2 taster sessions within 4 weeks of the initial trial. We feel these taster sessions are important for your swimmer to best understand squad swimming expectations and our coaches have the opportunity to further assess the swimming technique, whilst liaising with parents. Your swimmer will then be invited to join a 60-day (pre-paid) trial period with the squad or recommended next steps.
