Get ready to cheer for Team Bath AS as six of our Performance swimmers head to the GoCardless Swim England National Winter Championship, in what is one of the biggest English swimming meets of the winter months. The British Summer Championships 2023 provided a key end-of-season competition opportunity for the top 24 ranked swimmers in each age group (top 18 ranked swimmers in the 800m and 1500m), from 22nd-28th July, at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre. Team Bath AS is running a Christmas Freestyle Development Clinic on Wednesday, 20th December 2023, coached by Gold Olympic medallist and Double World Champion- Calum Jarvis, MBE. Calum is currently the support coach at the British Swimming Performance Centre and a Team Bath AS coach. The clinic will be open to competitive swimmers aged 10 to 13 years from Bath and the surrounding areas and held in the Olympic-size pool at the University of Bath. There were impressive performances from Team Bath AS at the Swim England South West Winter Championships at Millfield last weekend. The highlight was an incredible swim by Rue Fowler claiming first place in the 100m Back final with a time of 1:00.60. Rue went on to swim in the 50m Back (28.50) and 50m Butterfly (27.71) finals, securing silver medals in both events. Fifty-nine Team Bath AS swimmers got their ghoul on at the City of Bristol Halloween Spooktacular last weekend in what was a popular meet! 21 Clubs took part and 400+ swimmers. There was lots of fast swimming and some great racing. Twenty-seven Team Bath AS swimmers medalled with Sophie York walking away with six Golds, and Martha Kelly and Lola Madrid Jones with five Golds each. Over the 21 st-23 rd October, fifteen Team Bath AS swimmers competed at the Chelsea & Westminster Swimming Club and Millfield International Open. The Somerset ASA Short Course Event 2023 (Relays & 100IM) took place on Sunday, 15th October at Millfield with 31 Team Bath AS swimmers and 12 Somerset Clubs competing. It was a busy event with some great 100IM swims and the noise and cheers from supporting clubs and spectators created a fantastic atmosphere for the exciting racing. Last weekend Finn McFarland headed to Ponds Forge, Sheffield as part of the Somerset team to take part in the GoCardless Swim England National County Team Championships. The event is one of the highlights of the British junior swimming calendar with 900 swimmers from over 30 teams aiming for the top spot in each Division. Finn put in some strong swims for the Open/Male 12/13 years 200m Medley Team relay, where he swam their anchor leg, along with swimming the third leg swim in the mixed 300m Freestyle Team. The first event of the 2023/24 season took place at Millfield last weekend (30th-1st October). Thirty-nine Team Bath AS swimmers competed in the Somerset ASA Development meet bringing home 47 medals: 19 golds, 13 silvers and 15 bronze. Congratulations to Sam, Leo and Amelie on their selection for the South West Regional Development Programme 2023/2024. The swimmers were selected from the region in the 13 years age group based on their performances in 200m Individual Medley Long Course. The programme consists of 2 face to face camps at Millfield School and one online camp via Zoom. You can see more details about the selections for the South West Development Programme here.
