What a Weekend!

TEAM BATH AS FOCUS ON EVERY ASPECT OF DEVELOPMENT

It was a busy weekend for Team Bath AS (14-16 June) as alongside regular training and preparations for Summer Nationals, the Club hosted a training and development opportunities for coaches and swimmers from across the region.

Training kicked off at the Sports Training Village on Friday 14th June, for 16 candidates on the blended learning Swim England Swimming Assistant (Coaching) course. Full of enthusiasm the candidates from a range of local Clubs arrived for the course with tutor Steve Greenfield ahead of a full weekend of training to complete the face to face modules of the course. Attending from Team Bath AS were 3 volunteers – Somerset Young Volunteer of the Year 3rd place winner Peter Mould, Team Physiologist Eva Piatrikova and Academy Pooside Assistant Jess Rogers (Norton Radstock). Team Bath AS delegates were supported with funding from Somerset ASA and the region using the Swim England SW bursary scheme and Swim Mark vouchers.

Team Bash AS gained Approved Training Centre status last year after helping to run Level 1 and 2 courses for several years previously. The Club hosted the course which was organised by Swim England South West Development Officer, Stephanie Gadd in association with the Institute of Swimming. The Team Bath AS Approved Training Centre Certificate can be seen on the Team Bath AS website here.

Many thanks to Chris Alderton, Head Coach and Liam Willcox, Lead Development Coach for presenting the sessions and all our Performance Swimmers who were fantastic as usual and assisted the process. Team Bath AS look forward to welcoming even more candidates for the Swim England Coaching Swimming course in September.

The weekend continued on Saturday afternoon, after 3 hours coaching our Academy swimmers, Liam Willcox then held the Sell-Out ‘Improve your Starts’ Clinic from 3pm to 5pm in the University of Bath 50m pool. During the session age-group swimmers had the opportunity to improve starts, concentrating on the dive, underwater and breakout (transition into the stroke) phase of racing.

Team Bath AS has scheduled a further Age Group Development Clinic entitled ‘Ready to Race’ to be presented by Chris Alderton on 6th July. Following the success of the previous Sell-Out Clinics this event was also full within a day of launch with a waiting list of swimmers now also hoping for an available space.

Team Bath AS Volunteer Karen Bowen said: ‘As these Clinics are proving to be very popular we are preparing some new Clinics for pre- season preparation that will run at the end of August. Please keep checking our web site and social media as we are hoping to release more information very soon.’
