Team Bath AS Performance Swimming Programme (Effective 13th February 2023)
This page contains information on the criteria for joining the Team Bath AS Performance Swimming squads: Performance, Potential and Transition.
Coaches have the discretion to accept swimmers who have not achieved these standards based on their attitude to training, attendance and readiness to develop.
Swimmers must adhere to the Code of Conduct for Swimmers.
Achievements will be reviewed at various points during the season.
Reviews with the appropriate coach will be arranged for those entering the Performance Swimming Programme.
FINA points tables are available for 01/01/2021-31/12/2021.
Swimmers can see their individual FINA points for the past 12 months.
Somerset County Championship and Swim England South West Championship Regional Qualification times will be published on the Team Bath AS website.
All squads have a maximum number of places available, which can affect squad moves.
Coaches may discuss exit options with any swimmers who no longer wish to remain in a squad or cannot meet the squad criteria.
Consideration in any decision will be given to growth, personal development, illness or injury, and other extenuating circumstances.
Performance Squad
Focus: British Championships, British Summer Championships, Home National Championships, and Regional Finalists.
Swimmers' age: swimmers who were considered Youth swimmers in the 2018-2019 season.
Performance criteria: achieved either British Championships qualification, British Summer Championships qualification, Home National Championships qualification, Swim England South West Regional Finalists, or FINA points shown below in Long Course licensed meets based on age at the end of the year.
Squad entry at age 15: must have qualified based on events of 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m (long course only).
Squad entry at age 16 or above: entry into the squad may be based on 50m, and 100m events with the FINA points shown (long course only).

Note: swimmers allocated to this squad who have not already achieved these targets will have until the end of December, when a review will take place. If progress has been made, then swimmers will be able to remain in the squad until the end of the season, at which point another review will take place.

Pre-pool exercises start 10 and 20 minutes before the indicated swim training times above for morning and evening training, respectively. Swimmers are expected to be changed and ready to start these on time.
Potential Squad
The Potential Squad is for aspiring age group performance swimmers.
Focus: British Qualifiers, Finalists/English National Qualifiers plus Regional Qualifiers – ACHIEVING or ASPIRING.
Swimmers' age: swimmers who would be considered Age group swimmers in the 2021-2022 season.
Performance criteria: achieved British Championships qualification, British Summer Championships qualification, Home National Championships qualification, Swim England South West Regional Finalists or FINA points shown below in long course licensed meets based on age at the end of the year.
Squad entry is based on achieving FINA points in any 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m events (long course only).

The Youth Potential Squad consists of swimmers who have achieved the above criteria and are aged 14+ during the given year.
The Age Potential Squad consists of swimmers who have achieved the above criteria and are aged 12 or 13 during the given year.

Transition Squad
Focus: Swim England South West Regional Championship Finalists and Qualifiers, swimmers achieving current Somerset County Championship times.
Swimmers' age: swimmers aged 9-13.
Performance criteria: achieving Swim England South West Regional Championship qualification times for the season and achieving Somerset County Championship times based on 200m+ events and a variety of strokes. Long and short course times will be considered.
