Team Bath AS Performance Criteria 2019-2020

This document contains the criteria for the Performance Squads at Team Bath AS and includes the following groups: Performance Squad, Potential Squads and Transition Squad.

The Head Coach has the discretion to accept a swimmer who has not achieved these standards, based on their attitude to training, attendance and readiness to develop.

Swimmers must adhere to the Code of Conduct for Swimmers.

Swimmer’s achievements will be reviewed at various points within the season.

Reviews with the appropriate coach will be arranged for those entering the Performance Program.

FINA points tables are available at http://www.fina.org/content/fina-points. for 01/01/2019 - 31/12/2019 and swimmers can see their individual FINA points on  https://www.swimmingresults.org/individualbest/ for the last 12 months.

The Somerset County Championship and Swim England South West Championship Regional Qualification Times will be published on the Team Bath AS website.

All squads have a maximum number of places available, which can affect squad moves.

The Head Coach may have discussions with any swimmers that no longer wish to remain in a squad or cannot meet the criteria to discuss exit options.

Consideration in any decision will be given to growth, personal development, Illness/Injury and any other extenuating circumstances.

Performance Squad

Focus: British Championships, British Summer Championships, Home National Championships and Regional Finalists.

Swimmers age: Swimmers that were considered Youth swimmers in the 2018- 2019 season.

Performance Criteria:

  • Achieved either British Championships qualification, British Summer Championships qualification, Home National Championships qualification, Swim England South West Regional Finalists or FINA points shown below in Long Course licenced meets based on age at the end of year.

Squad entry at age 15: Must have qualified based on events of 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m (Long Course only).

Squad Entry at age 16 or above:  Entry into the squad may be based on 50m and 100m events with the FINA points shown (Long Course only).

NB. Swimmers allocated this squad, that have not already achieved these targets, will be given until the end of December 2019, at which point a review will take place. If progress has been made, then swimmers will be able to remain in the squad until the end of the season, at which point another review will take place.


PERFORMANCE TIMETABLE:  Swimmers will follow the FULL Team Bath AS Performance training program with full fees.

  • Pre- pool exercises start 10 minutes and 20 minutes before the indicated swim training times above for morning and evening training respectively and swimmers are expected to be changed and ready to start these on time.

Potential Squad

The potential squad will consist of 2 groups: Youth Potential (Achieving) and Age Potential (Aspiring).

Focus: British Qualifiers, Finalists/ English National qualifier plus Regional qualifiers- ACHIEVING or ASPIRING.

  • Swimmers age:  Swimmers that would be considered Age group swimmers in the 2018- 2019 season.
  • Achieved British Championships qualification, British Summer Championships qualification, Home National Championships qualification, Swim England South West Regional Finalists or FINA points shown below in Long Course licenced meets based on age at the end of year.
  • Squad entry based on achieving FINA points in any 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m events (Long Course Only).

The Youth Potential Squad consists of those swimmers that have achieved the above criteria and are age 14 plus during 2019.

The Age Potential Squad consists of those swimmers age 12 to 13 that have achieved the above criteria and are age 12 or 13 during 2019.

AGE POTENTIAL TIMETABLE: Swimmers will have 5 Team Bath AS sessions plus one land training session and 1 home club session. There will be some swimmers that will only access 4 Team Bath AS sessions and this will be experience dependent.

Transition Squad

Focus: Swim England South West Regional Championship Finalists and Qualifiers; swimmers achieving current Somerset County Championship times.

  • Swimmers age: Swimmers age 9 to 13.
  • Achieving Swim England South West Regional Championship qualification times for the season and achieving Somerset County Championship times based on 200m+ events and a variety of strokes.
  • Long Course and Short Course times will be considered.

TRANSITION TIMETABLE: Swimmers will have 4 Team Bath AS sessions plus 1 land training sessions and attend 1 home club session. There will be some swimmers that will only access 3 Team Bath AS sessions and this will be experience dependent.
