Small group make MIGHTY Impression at the McCullagh International Meet in Ireland

CWSC Membership

Over half term a selected group of swimmers from National Performance travelled to Northern Ireland to compete against some of the best National swimmers. The meet, hosted in Bangor displayed Senior British Olympians, National swimmers, Irish Olympians as well as Scottish and Welsh Age Group National swimmers.

It was fantastic to see the NP swimmers rise to the challenge, almost every swimmer finalled. Competing in a riguorous heat and final set up, were team mates Edward Whittles and Henry Gray. With minimal time between their events (5 mins per race), the boys showed sheer resilience and endurance. Through it all, they had some awesome swims, especially Edward's 200 IM and Henry's 400 IM! Edward came away from his first ever International meet with 5 medals, Henry 1.

Jarvis Parkinson swam with authority over his peers who he will be facing in April for Olympic Trials. Swimming his fastest ever races 'in season', it was good to showcase some processes he'd been working on since Christmas. Thomasina Grove, one of the youngest girls on the team clearly enjoyed swimming in Irish water. Hitting personal bests every time she entered the pool, Thomasina made senior finals in almost everything at just 13 years old. Similarly Zoe Musial built confidence by racing in senior finals.

It was great for the swimmers to be exposed to another piece of the pathway for competitive development. We now focus on building everything a little further heading into the next few meets.
