Pools update

Thea Beament

Dear Swimmers, parents, carers

Hope everyone is keeping well.

The committee have been communicating very regularly with Hengrove and Keynsham  pools regarding our club returning to training. Unfortunately Hengrove have now informed all clubs that use the pool that there will be a delay in getting back in and they are now hoping for 1st Sept to open their pool. As you can imagine we are very frustrated at this delay but will keep working closely with the pool operators to now get our procedures in place. Keynsham are hopeful for their pool to open from the 7th Sept. We do still need to have lifeguards at every session at Hengrove as they will not provide them for club sessions. A big thanks to those of you that have volunteered to do this course, it’s greatly appreciated. We were hoping that we could get this qualification done on the 15th August as previously agreed by Hengrove but with the delay in opening the pool, the heating was not turned on so it is now been hopefully rearranged for 22nd August. All our coaches must have a life guard qualification too before we can commence any training at Hengrove pool. Apologies about the date change but it was completely out of our control.

Once we can get in and view the pools and their protocols we can then put in place our risk assessments. Hopefully it won’t be too long before you are informed of squad training times and how everything will work for the swimmers and coaches safety. We will be following swim England’s guidelines. Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Some great news about a couple of our swimmers.

Sophie Williams and Laura Ball have been selected to attend (remotely this year) 2020 Somerset asa county development programme. This is part of a National programme overseen by Swim England for talented swimmers. Well done girls.

Stay Smiling everyone.
