Pool opening update

Thea Beament

Dear swimmers, parents, carers.

Hope everyone is staying safe and well.

Our committee have been working very hard with Parkwood who are the providers of Hengrove pool to agree a date for our return. We are delighted that the week commencing August 17th has been provisionally decided on. Hengrove have opened their gym and are now going to concentrate on getting the pool ready and heated for that date.

In the meantime we will be working hard planning on how and when our squads will train. We have to have all protocols in place and agreed with Parkwood. We need it to be a safe place for swimmers and coaches and also to be following all government and swim England guidelines.

With Keynsham pool still closed we have asked for a couple of extra hours at Hengrove. They are  reducing their opening hours unfortunately and have other clubs to accommodate as well. This does mean that until Keynsham pool opens its doors our training time will be significantly reduced. We aim to have some time for all our squads, but please understand that it will be a slow progress to get back to the times we had before covid.

Closer to the time a health survey and disclaimer will be sent out which has to be returned by email before we commence our training. Swimmers will NOT be allowed to swim until the form is returned.

Also day/time of training and temporary fees will be advised for each squad once this has been decided on.

We have been asked by Hengrove that all our coaches take a basic lifeguarding qualification as Hengrove lifeguards are being reduced during club training sessions. We need a lot of lifeguards to cover each session and if a parent ( or an over 16 year old) feels they could help out by taking this qualification and helping to life guard it would be really appreciated at this difficult time for us. If we don’t get enough lifeguards some sessions may not be able to go ahead. We have provisionally booked a day for this free 6 hour course on Sat 15th August. Please email me if you would like more details or to volunteer.

Land training is still going very successfully and the swimmers are enjoying being back with their swim pals.

Again thank you for your patience and understanding and once we have more details you will be advised.

Stay smiling

Thea (Covid Lead)
