About Us

Maxwell is the top competitive swimming club in the  Aylesbury Vale.  We have training bases in Aylesbury and Buckingham, and our professional coaches work with swimmers of all abilities to make them the best that they can be, ready for competition at club, county, regional, national and even international level.

The club operates a squad system which will guide and mentor children on their swimming journey. From entry into our Academy (2 hours per week) through to the Performance Squad (up to 20 hours per week) the swimmers are trained using the latest scientific techniques.  Our athletes will improve their technique, build fitness and develop their competitive abilities within a balanced programme, promoting and enhancing involvement and enjoyment of all sports.  Swimmers start at Maxwell following Stage 6-7 of the ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming.

Swimmers at Maxwell must be prepared to dedicate time to consistently attend their allocated sessions and be prepared to work hard when they are at training. In return the athlete will always be the winner – fitter than you thought possible, finely developed competitive instinct, outstanding stroke technique, all learnt while enjoying time with like minded friends. Maxwell’s swim program is designed to develop excellent life skills such as determination, team work and time management. As with all elite sport, our swimmers will learn to deal with success and disappointment but they will always have fun and be treated as an important part of something very special!

Further information:

The Club is affiliated to the Amateur Swimming Association, and has achieved its Swim Mark Essential accreditation. This is a national recognition that a club provides a quality service for all members, recognised by Sport England, and entitling us to Clubmark status.

Maxwell was established in 1979 in Aylesbury and was named after the “Reg Maxwell Pools & Fitness Centre”.  This was the original swimming pool in Aylesbury (next to the cinema).  The Aqua Vale was the replacement of this facility and so has been Maxwell’s home since 2001, when it opened.  Maxwell also has a large section of swimmers based at the Swan Pool in Buckingham since our Academy started in 2009.  Interestingly Maxwell had previously had a long history of producing swimmers in Buckingham when Maxwell used to train at Stowe Public School during the late 80’s and 90’s.

Maxwell is a competitive club, which caters for swimmers of all ages who want to develop their capabilities and achieve success in competition.  The club regularly has swimmers competing at National and International events and has strong links with the World Class programmes and English Talent Development programmes run by British Swimming and the South East Region Swim England.

The Club encourages young swimmers to start their development with two or three sessions per week in the Maxwell Academy to improve their stroke and fitness.  They do this whilst enjoying the friendly environment and the company of other swimmers their age.  As their swimming improves, the club provides the opportunity to compete in initially, novice galas and meets and through to County and National events.

The club's aim is for every swimmer to have the opportunity to reach their full  potential.  Consequently our training is demanding but it ensures they develop proper technique and fitness, both of which are fundamental in performance swimming.  Additionally swimmers also develop other skills such as self-discipline, motivation and goal setting, all of which are of enormous benefit in later life.

As your son or daughter joins Maxwell Swim Club please remember that volunteers principally run the club, so please offer your help whenever you can.  The club runs four  “open meets” (competitions)per year and these require help and support from all the clubs parents.

Please always ensure we have your up-to-date contact details, and check the website regularly for new upcoming fixtures and training changes.  You can also keep in touch by following us on twitter @ MaxwellSwimClub and/or Facebook.
