2021 Round Up

Fantastic Start to a New Season

Over the last few weeks the club has seen some exceptional return form for the swimmers’ to swimming.

Short Course Regional Champs saw the club take 2 open medals and 3 junior medals, the most the club has achieved in many years! With a further 4 swimmers making their first Winter National Qualifying qualifying cuts at the same meet. A great return to their first regional competition since the Summer Festival of Swimming in July.

We recently had 9 qualifiers, and 8 attend short course nationals in early December. Swimmers Poppy Baybutt, Kenji McDade, Sam Pyefinch, Charlie Toms, Jake Chesworth, Imogen Walton, Hollie Whaymand and Rowan Cyster all attended and made either season’s best swims, PB’s or swam within PB. For many (and due to covid) this their first national event and suitably stepped up with maturity and drive to match.

Upcoming ONB County Championships

We have also had our record number of accepted swims at ONB County Champs, with a total of 68 swimmers and 456 swims. A further 8 swimmers who made the qualifying times (taking the total number to 76). We look forward to seeing how the swimmers progress at the championships over January and February. We have a very strong chance or reclaiming our top junior club award (the most junior swimmer qualifiers in the county) and an equally strong chance of winning top overall club. Every single swim counts and contributes towards this as it puts points on the board for the club, so work hard and place as high as possible.

National Para Championships & South East Regional Record Claimer

December has also seen Amanda Readhead (our meet promoter) swim at the Swim Wales National Para Champs claiming four South East
Regional records with podium finishes. This is a great testament to an individual who was diagnosed with a life changing disability and has got in the pool and worked hard to achieve. An incredible achievement and a testament to the work with Bill and Sophie who has helped her with this.

Arena League

We have also been crowned winners of the division 2 London National Swimming Arena League, finishing a total of 440 points ahead of second place. This is a HUGE margin as there was only 8 points between 2nd and 4th. Again well done to all swimmers who took part!

2020-21 Season Club Award Winners

Our annual club presentation winners weren’t able to be presented with their shields but we will aim towards doing something more formal when  they current covid climate has calmed down. You can find the award winners listed here . Congratulations to all of them, you fully deserve it.

South East ESSA Team

Hollie Whaymand has been selected to be part of the South East ESSA Team as part of the inter regional School Swim Championships in March. A great achievement, well done!

Club Captains

Finally, it was announced team captains this year howls be Kenji McDade, Sam Drew, Sam Pyefinch, Poppy Baybutt, Amelie Bissett and Imogen Walton. All have been long standing members of the club and come through the development stage of the club all the way to the top group. They will be on hand to assist and help where they can with younger swimmers at meets, mentor younger squad swimmers and generally be a good example for the younger swimmers.
