Learn to Swim - September Update

Swan Admin

Update 5th September: We have had good news from a couple of our LTS pools and it looks like we may be able to re-start lessons from mid-late September at a couple of our venues. Please be assured that as your pool comes online we will be in contact with you via email.

It is not possible to transfer to a pool that is open at this time if your pool is still closed. You will need to remain at your current pool and await its re-opening. If we have spaces after accommodating our existing swimmers we will be in touch with swimmers from venues with no confirmed opening date to find them an alternative place in order to continue with their swimming lessons.

Please can we politely request you do not telephone in to ask when your pool will re-open as this takes our admin team away from the important task of getting lessons restarted and getting you all back in the water.  We will be in touch via email with each group as lessons become available.

Dear Learn to Swim Members

We would like to keep you all updated on the current situation with our Learn to Swim lessons at Norwich Swan.

We have unfortunately had to make the very difficult decision to delay the return of all our swimming lessons. Currently it looks like the earliest we will resume is after the October half term holidays, but if this is earlier we will of course keep you informed.  As individual pools reopen we will be able to do a phased return to lessons.

At this stage we have no school pools who have confirmed that they will be hiring their facilities to external clubs for this first half term, most have given the reasons below for this decision.

  • School management teams are prioritizing keeping their own pupils safe and do not want other clubs etc using school premises and facilities, to enable them to reduce risk to their pupils from external visitors to the site.

  • Pools have been shut down since March and work is required to get them up and running again, this usually takes at least 3 weeks, but some schools have already told us they will also need to do maintenance & repair works.

  • They do not have the staff or budgets for additional cleaning required.

We will be in contact with all our facilities again at the beginning of term when staff are back in schools and will work in partnership to try and support them in re-opening their pools.

As a not for profit club this period has been very challenging and we would like to take this opportunity again to thank you all for your unwavering support of Norwich Swan during this unprecedented time in its 140 year history.  Please check your latest email for information on billing and payments during this time.

We hope you can understand our position and would like to apologise for any disappointment that this may cause. Please rest assured that we will do our very best to get you back to your lessons as soon as we are able to do so safely.  The welfare of the children must always be at the heart of what we do above all else.

Kind regards

Norwich Swan Committee
