Winning start in opening weekend of Arena League

Paul McGregor (Administrator)

Swim Bournemouth made a triumphant start in the Arena League South on Saturday evening battling out against new teams and swimmers alike.  A full team coach left Ferndown into the unknown but there were no nerves being shown as the journey up to Wycombe was lively and upbeat.  We arrived in plenty of time to familiarise ourselves of what is a new venue for most, and what a great facility it is.

The team all decked out in hats, pom poms and face paint were ready to race, and race they did.  Some may say that division 2 should be easy, but that would be doing a massive disservice to the other teams and on the night there was stiff competition from all lanes.  Although the majority of the challenges coming from Oxford, Guildford and Wycombe in the main who clearly have vast resources at their disposal.

However, Swim Bournemouth showed its considerable depth of talent with successes across all the age groups, culminating with 26 1st, 10 2nd and 4 3rd places, which meant we were victorious on the night.

The coaches were very pleased with the attitude and professionalism of all the swimmers, level of skills are improving race by race as well as everyone is demonstrating stronger and stronger race mentality.  The support from the traveling parents was also immense considering the distance from home and by far the noisiest in the packed gallery.

The win puts us top of the overall Division 2 West as we go into Round 2 on November 10th.
