Matt Heathcock Head Coach

Matt’s involvement with swimming began at an early age and he competed up to Regional level. At the age of 16 Matt also began teaching swimming, progressing to becoming an Assistant Coach at Eastleigh SC when he was 17 and moving to become a full-time coach at 20.

Matt has worked alongside two Olympic coaches; his father Dave Heathcock and Bob Pay.

In his career to date Matt has been involved with developing County, Regional, National and International swimmers.  He has been the Great Britain Head Coach at three Junior European Open Water competitions and GB Head Coach at two World Junior Open Water events.

His ultimate aim is to coach the very best team and swimmers in the country, whilst also having fun on the journey.

Sam Woodward Assistant Head Coach

Sam started his club swimming in Newport, Wales at the age of 11, but wasn’t until travelling in Australia at the age of 18 and competing at Canberra ASC that his passion of coaching came to the fore.  Since his return to the UK, Sam has worked with top Welsh coaches Bryn Williams and Martyn Woodroffe. 

Sam continued his coaching career by becoming Head Coach at Fareham Nomads and Bournemouth Dolphins before he became Assistant Head Coach in the newly created Swim Bournemouth in 2010.

Sam has to date been selected as Hampshire Inter-County and Dorset Inter-County Head Coach multiple times, Dorset Talent ID Coach and England Talent Programme coach.

Andrew Brown Lead Coach

Andy started swimming at Wareham SC before moving to Ferndown Otters at the age of 10. Over the next 10 years Andy won titles at County and Regional level and qualified for the Nationals for several years competing in backstroke, butterfly and freestyle events. 

Andy returned to the poolside by helping out coaching with SB Juniors, when his daughters, Amy & Ellie were in the pool. This provided an opportunity to give something back to the sport and he subsequently passed his Level 1 Coaching qualification. Andy has now been coaching as a volunteer with SB for nearly 5 years as well as gaining qualifications in Team Management (Level 1 & 2)

In 2017, Andy joined the committee in the role of vice-chairman.

Mark Taylor Lead Coach

Mark Taylor competed in the 1980 Summer Olympics as well as several other international events for both Wales and Great Britain. After hanging up the trunks Mark took up coaching with his home club the City of Cardiff before moving to Bournemouth for employment and joined the Ferndown Otters coaching team when his two daughters followed in his footsteps to the pool.

After a short time away from poolside Mark rejoined Swim Bournemouth in 2015 as part of the age group coaching team. 

Michele Farina Lead Coach

Since 1997 I have gained a lot of experience in a field of swimming and fitness around as an instructor, coach, athletic trainer and swimming school manager.

Prominent as coach, I have got experience while working with European Force Swim League Trainer to NAS 1 in Sicily (Sigonella).

I see myself having new challenges and goals to achieve.

I moved to England because I am eager to share and transfer my experiences and also to learn new skills to benefit the whole team.

Katie Willcocks Regional Squad S&C Coach

Katie swam to a high competitive level, also playing water–polo to a high level and got the opportunity and privilege to train with the England squad, which Katie then went on to become a swimming instructor and water-polo coach.

Katie is highly qualified in Body Balance, Body Combat, Body Pump, Spinning, Circuits, Sports Nutrition and many more.  However Katie's passion is Pilates and for over 15 years she has taught in class or 1:1 environments
