Arena League Success

Saturday saw the third and final round of this year’s Arena League and Wycombe District’s A, B, and C teams all in action. The A team were competing at home in the Premier Division Final, whilst the B team were in Maidenhead in Division 1 West, and the C team were competing in Division 2 West league in Fleet.

Premier Division

The A team lined up in lane 5 competing against regular southern rivals Guildford City, City of Oxford, Bromley, Thanet, and Sevenoaks in a repoeat of last years final. Wycombe attained nine 1st, thirteen 2nd, and seventeen 3rd places out of 50 races.  A tense event saw the lead change between Wycombe, Guildford, and Oxford many times. Wycombe and Guildford tied for 1st place at the first points check and going in to the final set of relays.

In the end 13 times winners Guildford narrowly pulled ahead to take the win andadd one more to their record tally. However, after coming 3rd for the previous two years Wycombe’s hard work resulted in them finishiing second by 7 points and  20 ahead of City of Oxford in third.

Special mentions to Millie Sansome, Jamie O’Connor, James Baxter, Alex Moore, Alice Weston, Ellis Morgan, Merissa Booth, Sammy Tucker, Luke Burton and Billy Lee-Knowles who provided 1st place finishes. The whole team were supportive throughout the night, providing lots of noise, and this result means that Wycombe now finish 2nd in the league table for the South’s Premier Division.

Division 1

In  Division 1, West Gala 2 Wycombe B lined up against A teams from other local clubs,  With an amazing ten 1st, eleven 2nd and eleven 3rd place finishes the B team secured an Impressive first place over local rivals Newbury, Reading, Basingstoke and Maxwell.

So the team have FINALLY secured a deserved 1st place finish in an Arena League Gala after numerous close finishes; leading throughout the whole duration of the event. Notable mentions to Cameron Brooker, Harry Hawtree, Liam Smith, Nathan Walford, Jad Elalami, Annabelle Compton, Tom Sansome, Ceara Barber, Andrew Au, and Luke Poulton who all secured 1st place finishes in individuals or relay swims. A big shout out to the whole of the B team who were loud and supportive throughout the whole gala with numerous chants of #ONETEAM spurring every Wycombe swimmer onto success. Next year, the B team will be pushing for promotion.

Division 2

n Division 2 West Gala 1 Wycombe C  traveled to Fleet and lined up against  A teams from Swim Bournmouth (a highly rated team who have moved from the competitive Western Diviision), teams from Hart, Farnham and Chesham plus Oxford B, Rushmoor B and Guildford C.  The standard of this final was high. Wycombe C aquitted themselves well finish 8th firmly in the middle of the division table.

National Finals

To cap it all off, news followed today that after results from round 3 galas across every region that Wycombe have made the National Cup Final seeded in 2nd Place.  It is an amazing achievement for any swimming club to qualify just once for the National Finals this is our third A final and we go in ranked a close second place just behind Guildford.

The 50th finals will be held in Cardiff on Saturday 3rd March 2019.  Why not come along and siupport the team and see a great swimming event. We will let you know when tickets are avaialble.
