County Championships Weekend 2

Report by: James Lewis

Another packed weekend of racing at Wycombe Leisure Centre once again saw Wycombe Swimmers in dominant form over their local rivals.

On Saturday, the top ten swimmers in the senior boys 1500m freestyle were from Wycombe; Alex Cooper won the junior event by almost a minute. In the girls 400m freestyle, won by Millie Sansome, the top eight seniors were also from Wycombe.

Brodie Judge did the double in the senior 50m and 100m backstroke.

Other county champions from this weekend were Tom Sansome, James Baxter, Chloe Adams, Becky Hayward, Alice Weston, Cameron Brooker and Jemima Hall.

Wycombe retained the status of top club at the Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire County Champs for the fifth year running. Both the Dockery Trophy (for the top ladies club) and the Ellen Trophy (for the top mens club) were won by Wycombe by significant margins. Wycombe also dominated the standings for the top boy and girl awards. Merissa Booth won the Parker Silver Cup.The Lambert Shield was a close fought competition won by Alex Cooper.

Just like the two weeks before, there were plenty of outstanding individual performances. Ella Dyson set a new junior county record in the girls 1500m Freestyle; there was a breaststroke masterclass from Megan Daley as she won both the senior 100m and 200m breaststroke, setting a new junior 100m record in the process.

Wycombe again excelled in the relays. Every single event was won by a Wycombe Team over the weekend. There was a Wycombe 1-2-3 podium finish by the team in the ladies open 4x100m freestyle relay, With the A,B and C teams seeing off competition from Bracknell, Amersham and Windsor.  Then in the Medley relay they came within 0.07 seconds of repeating the achievement.

The Sunday relays brought an exciting end to the 2019 Championships with all our senior teams showing the depth and quality of the club truely demonstrating the #oneteam spirit. Congratulations and well done to everybody who represented Wycombe over the championships.

Wycombe Swimming would like to extend thanks to all those at BSBASA who organised the events and to all the volunteers and officials that helped out throughout the two weekends.
