Success at South East Swimming Masters Regional Long Course Championships 2019

John Reed
8 Masters swimmers represented WDSC at the South East Masters Regional Championships over the weekend of 19/20 January at the K2 in Crawley. For Steve Quinn and Kevin Wills this was their first time at a regional event and they were joined by Holly Moore (her first event as a Wycombe swimmer), Sarah Collin (an ‘away day’ from her University studies), and regular competitors Ami Pantridge, Jo Beardsworth, Greg du Tertre and Pip Williams.
It was a busy meet with many masters trying to achieve qualifying times for the Masters World Championships in August. In view of this it was incredible that the 8 Wycombe masters all came away with at least one medal each, and the total medal count was 16 - 9 Gold, 6 Silver and 1 Bronze. Some good times were achieved especially so early in the season, and some lessons were learnt.
The results are:
Steve Quinn: BRONZE in 200m breaststroke, 5th in 50m backstroke, and 6th in 400 free.
Kevin Willis: 2 SILVER in 100 fly and 400 free
Holly Moore: GOLD in 800 free
Ami Pantridge SILVER in 100 fly and 4th in 400 free
Sarah Collin: 2 GOLD in 200 and 400 free, SILVER in 50 free
Greg du Tertre: 2 GOLD in 50 and 100  breaststroke - both are new Club Records; 4th in 100 free
Jo Beardsworth: GOLD in 400 free Club Record
Pip Williams: 3 GOLD in 50 back, 50 free and 50 fly; 2 SILVER in 100 free and 50 breast, both new Club Records
As always thanks must go to our Masters Coaches: Dave, Patrick, Jordan and Joe for making us work hard and achieve.  Next stop is Bracknell Masters Open Meet in early March with a team 25 strong, many swimming for the first time.
